Won't come out of rock (house)

Hello,

I have had my BTS for about a week now. He is very sweet and sociable but I must say all he does in his tank is either bury himself or hide under his rock cave ALL DAY and i mean ALLLLL day. I feel like keeping the light/uvb light on for 12 hours in a complete waste! Is it because he is new to his tank is afraid? Just wish he would be a bit more active. I feel like the only activity he gets is when I actually take him out of his cage to walk around etc. Maybe this is the norm and I am just wacky. let me know what you all think please.

Give him a while he is become accustom to his surroundings. He is most likely a wild-caught so he is probably scared.

My skink is very friendly and not scared of me, but it's a normal thing for him to sleep all day burrowed in the cool side of the tank. Late in the afternoon he wakes up for a while, then back to sleep and wakes up late at night around 9-10 for a while. I think it's partially because of our routines around the house though. During the day not too much is going on (esp since my bf works afternoons to late night so we sleep till noon) So since we are up at night my skink is. I usually just turn on the light when he comes out and turn it off a little after because I'm always around to see what he is doing, but wouldn't just have it off if you aren't constantly watching him. I've tried keeping on the light all day and even all the natural light coming in doesn't make him come out so it's not like that is changing his schedule. Either way he comes out at night, so I figured to turn on the light just when he comes out of his burrow. His sleep/wake schedule is pretty much exactly the same each day. So I wouldn't worry about yours sleeping all day.
