Re: Tricks
I doubt it. They would do that just because they feel like it though.

Any trick a mammal could do like any trick a mouse could do.

Re: Tricks
Aidan - if you want a pet that answers to its name and does tricks, you need to get a dog. It isn't really realistic for a reptile.
They are amazing pets but they aren't nearly the same as dogs or cats. They most definitely can NOT do anything a mammal can. I don't know why you would think they could, they are completely different animals.

Re: Tricks
I've got two dogs, I am a little disappointed they can't do tricks but they are still awesome.

Re: Tricks
Dogs, if trained well, should be able to do tricks. Reptiles don't really have that ability. They can learn basic stuff but they won't learn names or tricks, that isn't realistic to expect. They are incredible, but in their own way. You can expect them to act or preform in the same way that a dog can.

Re: Tricks
some lizards can play dead, though not human taught
they can beg, also not a taught trait, some also roll over as a self defence mechanism, but again natural instinct, not something a keeper has taught them, some even chase there tails
there are blueys you can teach to do these tricks, though they are blue heelers, the australian cattle dog,you can even get red heelers and stumpy tailed cattle dogs
generally with lizards mate, its more food oriented training, when to expect it,or not to expect it all the time sort of thing, some learn it well, others dont, mostly its just mmmmmmmmmmm foooooooooooooooood
mind you i never have tried training them, but cant compare them to mammals, except for they eat, poop and can get territorial

Re: Tricks
Could someone in the know either explain or point me in the direction of why they can't be trained? From what I've read on the forum they don't have parts of the brain that mammals have which affects their ability to experience more complex emotions, are these also linked to learning? I have also read here that fish and reptiles have similar brains, and I know that fish are subject to 'the laws of learning' when using operant conditioning. I am wondering why, if reptiles have similar brains that the general consensus is that they are not able to be trained using operant conditioning?

Re: Tricks
Coomassie's tricks include: making food disappear and chasing roaches around my bedroom floor because he lets them go. He is also a ninja pooper.

Re: Tricks
The real closest you will ever get to a "trick" is Target training, and what you can do with it. search sme older posts where I've written about them(critterguy too).
