water bowls

I am looking for ideas on water bowls for the new skink. Right now I have a glass pie plate in there, which works, but seems to take up too much space in the tank. Trying to get a bowl big enough for her to soak in is a little dilly as she is Huge. I would need a dish half the size of the tank I was looking at this on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Terra-Water-Dish- ... 831&sr=8-2 have others used these? What other suggestions do you have?

I have 14 of those I think. I started with them and wanted all enclosures to match. I know...

They are great. Lasted many years, I throw them in the dishwasher sometimes, no complaints. To maximize space and minimize substrate in water dish I just have them on a raised tile hide, works really well.

i also have that exoterra one. and im not so satisfied with it.
on one side its a bit riffled and its hard to clean properly after a while, and when refilling i always spill from it D:

i ate an expensive desert and got a small, thick glass bowl that i will paint from it. thats his new water bowl. its easy to clean and when i refill it its very easy to manage not spilling water all over the floor u__u

I have a bowl that is smaller like the one the OP put up. I used to use it in my BTS tank but since switch to a bigger less deep one. It is also heavier so my skink can't bury beneath it or simply tip it over. My bearded dragon is enjoying the other deeper one.

I have something very similar - picture taken a while ago when I still had substrate- But the water bowl is still around today and it is great!

I used a brown terra cotta plant saucer for mine but my skink never soaked in it. It was huge and I more less kept it in the tank for humidity. I recently just took it out and put a much smaller one in the tank. I am not too pleased w that either. I have a 75 gal tank in the garage waiting for its base to be built. I will most likely add the larger saucer back in when I can use it. I do like those rock looking ones though. Amazon is the best!

a tip to with topping up water bowls,put bowl into enclosure first,then fill it up when its in there,saves spillage on the way to cage,do blueys soak?i guess they do love to walk all over stuff u put in there cages,never noticed them soak before

I just started doing that with my bowl LOL I was like "Why didn't I think of this earlier...duh" So much easier to just empty the bowl of any bedding that might be in, give a good rinse and dry then put it in and fill up using a small cup. No more spills on me or in the tank.

i keep mertens water monitors to,so take pond out often to clean and refill,used to try half filling and putting back in,must have looked like a seriously drunk person trying to walk up a going down esculator,lol,spillage was common,then occurred to me to bring hose in and fill up that way,lol

The easterns have some very simple ceramic dog bowls and for the money I really love them, they are also much easier to clean since they have that glossy finish and are smooth all over, as opposed to the roughness and little nooks and crannys in that bowl you posted.

I use ceramic dog food bowls, come in lots of sizes, very robust, easy to clean, relatively heavy so pretty much BT proof, use these for all my lizards/snakes, 60 plus critters, work for me

i have a dog bowl in my bts tank and all my ball pythons tanks. they are cheap and big enough for them to soak in

I agree with Ali! I have both the bowl you mentioned in the first post (I like them but not the cost of them) but the majority are the ceramic dog bowls.

It kind of made me laugh reading this thread, because I have used every type of bowl mentioned at one time or another. In fact I have a large cabinet in the garage that is filled with supplies that I am not currently using, and it looks like an isle in a pet store. For the last few years, I have been using stoneware dog bowls for all of my skinks. I'm one of those weirdos that has to have the same type in every enclosure. It may be a sickness.

I use 7 1/2" diameter bowls for everything except the rugosas. They have a smaller bowl. I have found that if I put an extra empty one of these bowls in the enclosure, many of the skinks LOVE to sleep curled up in them. Adults don't look comfortable in a bowl this size, but they will spend a huge amount of time in them.

I also like matching water dishes and hides. Which is why I have 13 or 14 of the exoterra ones. They work well - they aren't the cheapest and might not be the best, but they do match!
