Don't count the US out either! We might be slow getting on the BTS bandwagon but you can bet once we catch up we are gonna pass all of you up!

Ignoring Australia and Indonesia, you guys only think your great because you're the top of the English-speaking BTS market. Germany/Japan/China/Indonesia. Just because people aren't on our English forums doesn't mean they don't exist. And they have some bloody rockin skinks.

I wouldn't say behind, you're definitely among the tops, but not as great as ML seems to think. Sadly the US killed off/exported so many of their unique skinks.

This MAY be getting a little off-topic...

Try having your friend spot clean as soon as she sees the poop, and make sure she feeds at least once a week. Twice a week preferable.

Oh come on WanderingChai it is fun! It's all friendly banter. And I am not up on the "history" of the US and skinks. Any documentation I could read about this killing off and such of our cool skinks?

Did you know the USA used to have representatives of all 4 types of shingles? Lowland and highland blotchies. Red, yellow, silver & green Tanimbars. Easterns with eyebands were easy to obtain once. Even Westerns! There are still a few of these in the USA but it's nearly impossible to find them and most aren't being bred. And I mean I only just found out there are albino BTS in the USA. There's definitely rare skinks hiding in private collections under the radar, but they may as well not exist to the everyday enthusiasts. In most cases if the keepers didn't have the animals die off they sent them overseas to increase the chance of offspring. Most people didn't recognize the value of the animals and thus they disappeared quickly. It's only through the dedicated work of a few amazing keepers that we really have CBB skinks at all. And there are some amazing people trying to bring back the super rare species. If you want the history take the time to talk to the amazing keepers who've lived through the US's foray into the BTS world.

Just my opinion. Many of the people in the U.S. Who have possessed the most awesome BTS over the past 30 years have been more concerned about making money than working with the skinks. We have definitely lost a lot of incredible animals as a result, but on the flip side, we are still allowed to keep every species other than adelaidensis as long as they are acquired legally. I have a feeling that in 10-20 years north America may move ahead of the other "non-Australian" hotspots for BTS. Only time will tell.

Oops - yeah, it was my comment that started all this. I'll split it into a second thread so that we don't completely derail the original thread! :D
