BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

So this is the start of day 3 after bringing Jarvis home.

I was told he is 3 months old, very tiny little guy.

I've offered him food daily, with no results, until this morning - Instead of placing it 5 inches away on the other side of the plant he's been hiding under, I put the bowl on an angle right in front of his nose on, he hissed, looked at me, hissed again then the tongued started flicking..

He took a few bites of his shredded carrots, tiny bit of collards and wet dog food mixed with calcium d3, spent most of the time what looked to be just licking it? lol

Anyways, I decided to put him up and introduce him to his water dish which is a few feet away from where he's been hiding, very hissy naturally, but I then noticed he's shedding, all the skin is fluffing off his back!

I know from experience my snakes rarely eat during shed, can the same be said for bts? perhaps that's another reason he's been reluctant to eat.

Anyways, as a result I took a small rock hide perfect for his size, filled it with sphagnum moss soaked and rung out with warm water and picked him up and showed him to it, he's been inside for 30 min or so now, I figured this wil aid in his shed as my apartment is very dry, and he has not left the hot dry side of the tank.

So far, so good?

some may stop eating when shedding,my lot usually still scoff if there shedding or not,but add new home into the mix ,new surrounds to get used to ect ect,new territory to make ,its alot of things they need to get used to

Yea, Snake sheds are easy compared to this too,

No fingers or ears to worry about.

Since blueys blink, they obviously don't have eye caps like snakes, meaning you should see eye holes in they head piece shed right?
That and I understand you need to pay attention to the ear caps? and toes?

My snakes just wiggle through obstacles to shed, but since blueys have legs, they probably just scratch it off themselves? or do they wiggle threw tight spots to rub it off for them?

Just wondering if he will stay in his humid hid during the process or not.

i dont add humid hides for them to aid shedding,just watch to see if they need assistance,usually they dont,humid hide could benefit them though,even misting them during a shed

yes if they shed head scales in a large bit you ofter get the eye hole peice,sometimes both eyes,they like to rub on stuff to aid shedding,roughish rock,tree branch,well anything,sometimes even another lizard,lol

ear caps and whole legs,even tail tips i find are the areas that retain shed the most,sometimes even the head

No eye caps for blueys. Retained eye caps would be lots worse than toes, toes usually just take a couple days. Unless there is husbandry issues I've never seen ears be a problem for shedding.

They have tiny little stomachs so licking up a bit of food is probably a good sized meal for them. Some do refuse food around shedding, some don't - but not eating for a few days or even a week or two is nothing to worry about. In the wild they probably would be going for longer periods without food.
