Healthy Herp veggies

Postby PlinkoPachinko » Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:12 pm

Has anyone tried this food? I only have one blue tongue skink so it can be a mess buying greens and squash and freezing it all. I think it might be nice for emergencies or when I'm feeling a bit lazy.

Today I went to a pet store that sold dubia roaches! Plinko loved them!

Cute .gif of your guy snatching up a roach (clumsily).

Also I thought freeze drying anything destroyed nutrients. But I dunno for sure. Nothing can be as healthy as fresh stuff.

Yeah, I figure it's not healthy for all the time, but in between when I don't have time to buy fresh squash and greens. I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with it!

Also for me, the food doesn't stay fresh for long. Since she only eats a little bit at a time, I have to freeze/refrigerate the rest anyways. I'd say she only gets 2 fresh meals out of 2 weeks' worth of food :s

Actually frozen can be healthier than fresh. All depends on how fresh the "fresh" actually is. Freeze drying basically just removes the moisture and since using low heat, it actually preserves most if not all nutrients. Also, even though the product is not monitored by the FDA, the package will have the nutritional analysis.

I see no issue with using this product. I have used it in the past, but with the number of skinks I have, it just is not practical for me to use it.

Yeah, I only have one skink so it's a huge waste to even buy one squash and one thing of greens. Most of it gets frozen or goes in the trash. If she'll eat this stuff (and she's not a very picky skink, thank goodness), then awesome! That's great that I can use this as a veggie sometimes. Every now and then I like preparing her a really fancy meal though!

Plinko, I saw that you lived in Brooklyn. Was the pet store that sold the Dubias in NYC? If so, where was it? I was looking to maybe get a few to feed my guy but I don't want to get them shipped to work/I can't wait at home to receive the package.

http://www.faunanyc.com/ It's this place. Their store was very nice! Unfortunately they didn't have any silkworms or hornworms, but the dubias made up for it!

I had never seen a dubia roach before until this! And I actually think they are kinda cute, felt alittle bad for that guy scurrying his heart out to get away from the big bad lizard lol

Yeah, they were really cute. They'd cling to my finger, it kinda tickled! I tried not to get too attached to them...
