New to site, new indy blue tongue :)

Postby batsam » Wed Feb 22, 2012 10:07 pm

Hi ! I recently found your forum after doing tons of research on your website, before obtaining my indonesian blue tongue. I work at a pet store in Alberta, Canada and although I paid a nice little price for him he was 100% worth it. (Also came to the conclusion of his sex, thanks to your site :))
Its really nice to have people to confide in, in terms of a specific animal and I think its great, so I thought i'd like to share him with the rest of you, he's really my baby :) I assume him to be a juvenile, although my shipper/dealer didn't give me a whole lot of specifics. This is Grimm :)

i'm sure i'll share more, i'm just excited to be here & be a part of other blue tongue lovers :D

You got a real cutey there and love the setup. Maybe it is just me but his muzzle seems different than some of the other skinks I have seen around here (including mine). Am I imagining things? Maybe it is cause he is still young but it seems...longer? -shrugs- Still he is very very cute.

After as much research as i've done, I actually completely understand where you're coming from (nobody else has dared mention it haha)! It seems almost a little thinner, or longer, in my opinion as well. haha not exactly sure why? Maybe aging will change that, though, I'll still love him regardless :)

It is to bad the breeder didn't give more info! Now I am curious on genetics and such. Still perhaps he will grow out of it and put some more "fat" in that face LOL The only way to really know is to watch and take progressive photos, then compare as he gets older.

Welcome!! Alberta is a great place to own BTS.

The whiteish nose / face shape is somewhat normal. I've seen a few with that, one of mine is very similar. Definitely nothing to be concerned about.

He looks great, love the enclosure. How did you pick the name?

^^absolutely, I take photos of him every day! Excited isn't even the word when I begin to think about our future lives together :]

Thank you Katrina :] I love it, although our winters are cold, we have very warm summers and I can't wait to take him outside to play !
I'm relieved to hear that you don't find him abnormal at all, sometimes with our reptile suppliers we don't fully know what we're getting, there are so many different types of reptiles that come in, but with the blueys, they aren't a super common order, as with their price range it's "harder to sell".. Mind you, I have 2 year olds coming into the store saying "Where is your dinosaur!?"

I'll be adding more plants as I go along, in the last month i've paid a hefty price for it all haha, but once again, completely worth it. And as for Grimm, well I guess I kinda just played with a bunch of names, and when I got to that one.. It was perhaps the only one I could say twice and still be content with it! Plus, its real fun to play with.. Sometimes i'll call him "Grimbles", "Grimbly" or "Grimmus", its awesome :]

Where in Alberta are you? I'm in Sherwood Park.

He looks very similar to my Simon. :D

I'm actually up in Fort McMurray, that isn't far at all!
Is there somewhere I could perhaps sneak a peek at your scaly critters? :]

Nope, Ft. Mac isn't far at all. I end up working there (or nearby) fairly often. :D

Here is a recent thread... it doesn't really show Simon's nose well, but I can add more pics if you want to see that or anything in particular. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19908

That's awesome :] I work at the North Star Pet Centre up here! We receive PIJAC courses, and I can't wait to do my reptile module!

They're ALL beautiful!! It really makes me want more haha. I guarantee when I move into my new home within the next year, having more room, I'd love to build a few more nice setups :]

Katrina, I would love to see pics of that skink you were talking about that has that different snout. Just curious to see.

I'm attaching a pic of Simon, hopefully it shows what I'm talking about well enough. :) It seems to be a bit of a 'look' of certain BTS, I remember one being posted on KingSnake as a "Rare, white-snouted BTS", which also had the lean face and obviously the white around the nose. I have a couple pics of Kira's mother and she also has that look, with the very lean face. Doesn't have the white nose though.

Hi,

I'd like to see some more photos, but it looks like a keyensis to me?

Just curious, why do you say that? What traits make you think its not an Indo? It looks pretty Indo-y to me :)

thank you both :) he's definitely my pride and joy !

i'm also curious to anyone that has the experience, what age you would estimate him at? i roughly estimated (with a tape measure) today that he is 17" long.

17" can be full grown for Indos - so there really is no way to guess age. He might still grow a bit, if he puts on a couple more inches then I'd say he is under a year to a year and a half. But if he stays about that size, then there is no way to know. Beautiful skink!! :D
