What kind of calcium supplement is best? And is it possible to handle him too much?

You need the surface temperature under the heat lamp to be 95-100 F or 35-38 C. So buy a good thermometer (we generally recommend the little temperature guns where you can point it at a surface and it will give you a digital reading), and then buy a dimmer and dim the heat lamp until you have the desired temperature. If he is moving away it is too hot. You need the heat lamp on one side and a cool end on the other side so he can chose what temperatures he wants. Hides on both the warm and cool side are best, again - so he can chose the temperature but still have the option to hide and be safe.

I'm not sure what calcium supplements are available in Australia, maybe some of the Australian members can help. If you aren't providing UVB lighting, then I'd look for one with calclium and vitamin D3.

For handling - make sure it isn't overly stressed and that it has a chance to regulate temperatures etc.

Thought I would give everyone an update, Ninja is doing really well, I bought some wet dog food, and he is loving that, he also really likes kiwi. He weighs 13 grams now, which I think is a good sign. I appreciate all the help you guys have given me. :)

re: handling, when we just got him, if we went to pick him up, he would open his mouth and hiss, I left him alone when he did that, and after that he hasn't done it again. So is that all ok?

sounds like he/she is settling in well, thats great

the open mouth display is natural, especially for youngsters, its there threat display instinct, sometimes some take it a step further and actually swing round and try to bite, lol, blotchy bubs are shockers for it,easterns can to,but yeah, nothing to worry about,if they are unsure of you,its there natural instinct to display, they grow out of it pretty quick in general, especially when they get used to the hand that feeds them and learn you are no threat to them, its character i say,i have the odd animal that continues to do it,even into adult hood, lol, but generally they settle pretty quick, especially easterns
