Substrate?

Postby aaw8711 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 4:30 pm

Hello everyone,
I recently have switched my substrates and I wanted to make sure it is safe. I am using Earthgro All-Natural Bark Nuggets, which I purchased at a local Home Depot. I have not seen any comments or reviews on using this substrate. Let me know what you think... If I do need to switch substrates what is a good cost effective substrate that blue tongues enjoy. Thanks!

Welcome! :D

What kind of bark is used in that? Stay away from anything containing cedar or pine bark. It probably would work fine as long as it isn't one of those, the aromatic chemicals in those trees can cause respiratory problems for reptiles. Other good substrates include aspen, cypress mulch, repti-bark, carefresh... there are lots of options so you can try a few out and see what you like.

Is Care fresh the substrate that looks like cotton, a soft fluffy material?

I myself use Sani-Chips. It is pretty much safe for any reptile and it is easy to burrow in. Also seems to last a really long time with spot cleaning poo and such.
