Not enjoying substrate change...
Today I switched my IJ, who I have had since june or july, from bark chips to aspen. The aspen was too hard to maintain, and he would always be belly dragging. Not to mention it smelled, absorbed his waste, and his claws were getting unruly. But he hasnt figured out yet that he can burrow into the bark chips, and he has spent the last hours or so trying to dig out a corner. Is he gonna get depressed or something...? Or will he figure it out?

Don't worry - if there is enough bark for him to burrow in, he will figure it out. Do you have a couple hides in there so that he doesn't have to burrow? If so, don't worry at all - he will be just fine!

I have one on the cool side, he was in it earlier. But he normally has to burrow a little to fully utilize it, and he was just curled up inside of it pouting.

I recommend getting another one on the hot side too, and maybe just some general things to climb over and stuff throughout the tank.

My guy loves to dig in his aspen. I will see him making mounds in the corners of his tank just so he can dig through them over and over again. But when he isn't burrowing he is on his cork bark or on his many fake rocks. I bet once your guy/gal gets used to the new bedding he/she will be burrowing in no time.

Katrina is right, as long as there are a few hides for him/her; it will be fine. My Skink cant live in ANY substrate (due to a recent surgery) but does just fine in paper towels and cloth towels as long as she can tuck herself under them. They are very adaptable lil creatures
