DOG FOOD question

Postby Fernando » Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:49 pm

I asked my wife to pick up some dog food for my BTS. She brought back two kinds because she said she wasn't sure of what I meant and there were so many.

'Wellness' 95% chicken

OR

'Pro Plan' Chicken & Barley Entree

Which is better?

I don't even know if it matters. But, since this is my first skink, I want to make sure I'm doin' it right! :D

I personaly use kitten or puppy food because it's softer and they seem to love it. Both will work you just need to find out which they love more!

Puppy or kitten food tend to be high in fat, so better than regular food only if you are trying to put weight on your skink.

Both are fine Fernando. I would mix in some thawed out frozen vegetables though. Dog food is made for omnivorous dogs, but I think BTS benefit from an omnivorous diet that is slightly more weighted toward the vegetable side than dogs.

100% agreed! I would prefer to use a weight management formula or even a senior formula due to lower fat contents.

I only use it because marvin seems to be more skin and mussel and no fat for a large female. While Serina is a fat boy. and gets eggs and regular dog food or cat food I have for emergancys for both my dog and skinks.

phaemas- based off of your picture, there would be no reason to add additional fat to your skinks diet.

Edit: Just reread what I posted. It did not make sense!

Yes, really.

Marvin is just built smaller, but in no way skinny.
But being built smaller is one more reason you should not try to get her gravid before she has reached adult size. Really!

Thanks everyone for trying to help, but the current conversation is WAY off topic from the original intent of the thread. If anyone wants to continue with this, please start a new thread or pm.
