Ruth won't eat!

Postby ykopel » Sat Dec 24, 2011 5:33 pm

Ruth is 6 moths old. up til about a month ago she ate a lot every day. then her appetite started getting worse, and I figured that was normal for her age. I started feeding her every other day. But now she flat out refuses to eat- she hasn't eaten in probably about a week and a half at all! How long until I need to be seriously concerned? Thanks guys.

Also- her temperature looks fine. And her cage is clean. She looks perfectly healthy, and has plenty of energy.

In winter many BTS brumate. This means they may stop eating and slow down/sleep for the winter. So long as she's not losing weight, don't worry about her.

Ditto to what Fatal said. But I'll add that a week and a half really isn't that long to go without food. Best thing you can do is buy a cheap kitchen scale (if you don't already have one) so you can monitor her weight.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Even though I keep my temps and lights the same, my skink stops eating for the winter every year. He also spends all his time sleeping. I move his hide a little bit every week or so, so he'll huff at me and I know he's alive.

She probably will brumate. It's a natural response to the change in seasons. What's interesting is that sometimes even blueys kept inside will respond to seasonal change even though their cage temperatures and light are kept constant. If she does decide to brumate, just keep some water in the cage. They do come out sometimes and have a drink and go back to sleep again. After a couple of months you'll find she'll want to come out again.
