Is it possible to house train you BTS. For example, I had an Iguana and he was house trained. We had him for 1o years, so he was pro at it. We kept his cage open slightly and he would crawl out (We had a front opening cage) and wander the house when noone was home (Or when we were home on weekends) and he would poop in his cage and at night he would return to his cage. The only time he pooped out of his cage when he wasnt happy with something. Hed poop right in the middle of the floor. I know Its probably not safe for a BTS to be running around free because they are so small,, but is it possible? I know when Ruckus has gotten out hes come out of hidding when I got home, but I dont think he would return to his cage.
(Im not saying Im going to try to house train him. Im just currious)

Re: House Training your BTS
is it in an iguanas nature to hide the way BTS love to?
otherwise, i think, if you had an "open cage", the bluey would instantly try to find the best hide in the house, and stay there.
also, if you have one little tiny thing on the floor, that looks a bit like something edible, and tastes okay.......you can guess the rest.
if your bluey climbs, the risk that he will nosedive from a high place is a bit worrying too, an iguana is a much better climber. but i have known of many iguanas to get stuck in curtains and such too D:
im not so sure you can train your BTS to poop in one place only, but you can always try, would be great
i think some bts tend to move around to different hides, and thus they poop in random places.
compare it to the crevice pineapple (spiny tailed skink), who only poop in one single place, as they stick to one hide for as long as possible.
this is too avoid disease and parasites~~

Good point Linnea. Iguanas are arborial (Sspelling?) They are definatly tree climbers. My iguana has eaten some forign thing in the past. I bet a BTS would go nuts for tiny thing on the floor. I have lost Jack a few times and found him squished in tiney holes lol I bet Ruckus would be pro at that.
Ill try to train him to poo in one spot once we get his new home set up

Re: House Training your BTS
It might be possible to toilet train a bts. I toilet trained my bearded dragon. The way I done it was work out a feeding routine and work out approximately when he likes to go to the toilet. I'd feed him at 3pm when I come home from work. Everyday at 5pm is bath time. And that's when he poops. I put him in the bath at 5pm he'll do a poop and he gets a locust or a wax worm as a treat to let him know he's a good boy for not pooing on anyone or the carpet. And kept this up for a fortnight. He got the message and even if I was away for 3 or 4 days he would hold it in an not poop in the house or in his viv, I'd come back and his viv is nice and clean and I put him in the bath and he does his business
Not tried it with Slinky yet since he's in the middle of being hand tamed but it's always worth a try! If it worked for Ozzy it might work for Ruckus
Good luck!
