Bluey Banner Contest

Deadline to submit pictures: by GMT Noon Sunday, January 1st, 2012

Contest Details:
A photo contest to replace the three photos on the Forum Banner. Try to submit photos that will show up well on the banner!

Submission info:

1. Email only (do not post or pm your entry) to Kat at: kat.sharko@gmail.com.
You will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submitting your entry - if not, PM, email or nag me however you see fit to ensure I got it!

2. Include in the email your forum name and bluey name.

3. For these banner contests, any photo can be submitted, even ones that have previously won photo contests.

4. Each user may submit two entries, but if more than 10 photos are received only one photo per user will be included. If submitting two photos, please specify which is your first choice.

Nice! Wait until a week after the northern hemisphere puts it's skinks to sleep for the winter, then ask for pictures.

I kind of think it would be nice to have permanent pictures in the banner. Not a strong stand on that position, but I like the page to look the same when it comes up. I also think it would be great if you could find the perfect picture from three obviously different species that would show some of the diversity of the Genus. I really like all of the pictures up there currently, but I would like it better if the first two skinks didn't look so similar.

Nice! Wait until I put up the Contest thread before mentioning that you might want to leave the banner pics up permanently.

That's a good point - I wouldn't mind a permanent three pics in there that look amazing. Keep the Blotchie and one of either the Northern or Merauke (or pick a different Northern / Merauke photo) and then add a Kei, Shingle or even an Eastern with nice eye bands to show diversity.

I'll think about this and might start a poll to see what people want. Please feel free to post or PM me suggestions! Maybe we can work out another way to show off the winning contest photos...

Also remember that for the banner contest, the banner images are quiet small. That means that for the best photo, you'll probably want to get some kind of face close-up or other detailed image that can be seen well in a small picture. For example, a shot of your bluey walking through the leaves would hardly be noticeable in the picture sizes shown on the banner. Keep that in mind!

Photo Contest Update!

We have decided to run this banner contest once and then the mods / Nae will decide which three photos will look best in the banner. We'd like to make the banner a permanent fixture, so this contest will only run once.

Other exciting news - Alioop is taking over running the photo contests. A couple generous members have also volunteered to help, so Ali might be contacting them to help her out. Thank you Ali and everyone!

Saving the best for last - it seems like we have enough interest and enough amazing people willing to help out to do a Bluetongueskinks.net Calendar again! So the photo contests will run monthly and the winning photos will be used for that month of the BTS.net 2013 calendar. Hope everyone asked for new cameras for Christmas! Alioop will have all the details and be putting the first contest up fairly soon - watch for it!
