Bask-a-holic

Postby StephanieRoze » Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:58 pm

I just got my BTS yesterday at a reptile expo. I wasn't told his (I'm guessing on the gender) birth date. I should have asked the guy, but it left my mind. By his looks, he seems to be about 2 months old or so. Anyway, he was exploring his new home a lot last night, which I had expected. But today, it's just been bask, bask, bask! A little while after he woke up this morning, I gave him some meal worms and scrambled egg and then basically basked the entire rest of the day. I know they need to bask to help digest but I don't think he ate so much as to bask all day long. His cool end is 75F degrees and his basking at 90F. Any suggestions as to why he's been doing this all day long or should I just not be concerned?[/img]

90 F is a bit cool - I'd bump it up to 95 ish. If you provide a basking spot of 95 and a cool side of 75, then don't worry - just leave him be to choose whatever temps he wants. I have some that bask more than others, it is nothing to be concerned about. If you provide the correct environment then he will take care of the rest. :D

Congrats on the new little one!

congrats on the BTS! :D (photos ;__;)

its totally normal for them to have days when they only bask, days when they only hide, and days when they do both.

Although, even if it seems they ate a little, a small BTS gets filled up rather quick. A growing skink is an eating skink(all of them love food though), and to push in more food later i guess he is doing his best to digest what he has~~

when my IJ was 2 months old, he barely ate anything (i thought) but he grew like a weed, in one month he put on 4 inches!!! Now he eats a ton!

Some of mine bask all day, and roam around, and others sleep for most of the day. Its pretty normal :)

also, :ryo:

I will probably end up posting some pictures of Mango tomorrow. For now, I do have 2 cute videos of him if you're interested.

His first night home, checking the place out

His second day home, having scrambled egg for the first time

There isn't a background on his tank in these videos, but he has one now that really ties it all together :)
