Boots update pics

Postby bluesrt » Mon Nov 21, 2011 4:42 pm

Update on Boots, Boots was bred by Bill Schwin we think. It’s now 5 months old
15 inches long. I might get flamed on this but his main diet is Friskies or whiskers can cat food with bird’s eye frozen veggies blinded in and dusted with Rep Cal muti/calcium d3 from time to time. As Boots gets older what do you all think about switching over to dog food? Boots gets a little huffy at me some times but still has not bitten. I just make sure it sees my hand first and talk to it before I make any moves to pick it up. As it gets bigger I use more caution when handling lol.

boots is so cute <3
love the first photo!

i would say, switch to dog food directly~~ but its up to you.
im not sure if the added taurine in the catfood is good anymore (something about liver problems was mentioned when i read up on it, maybe someone else can confirm this as i know others mentioned this), so i decided id let the skink not eat it as an extra added amino acid, to be on the safe side.

but really, it seems skinks do well on either : D

*note that i have not cared for a younger growing skink, and that my food advice can be completely off.

I read a while back that cat food is higher in fat, so it was ok for young blues, but I think Boots is getting old enough to not need the extra fat and go with the dog food. Anyway, if any one is thinking about getting a skink, then please get one. They are so easy to take care of. The only downside is that they dont bask and display themselves like the bearded dragon does. But when a skink comes out to bask or eat they are one of the coolest lizards to watch for sure. This little lizzard has made me want to someday get a female giant Tegu.

It would be best to switch to dog food- and a higher quality brand for sure.

If you have a pet health food store near by, what I use is Wellness chicken dog food. It's really only a few bucks for a can and they don't eat allot! :)

I love those pictures. Boots is an adorable little guy!

I'd switch to a quality dog food like Wellness. Or just cook some chicken breast and put some in the freezer for him with veggies.

He is my boy's (younger) sibling...very cute, and they look a LOT alike!
