Poop
hehe, sorry to bring up a sort of yucky topic. BUTT . . .
if your skink has runny poop what does that mean diet wise or health wise? Scooter's poo is almost always a little runny and greenish. ??
He pooped all over my classroom carpet this morning, and it was not an easy clean up. Is he unhealthy?

Shoot, I don't get the pictures, but Lea Bilby wrote a GREAT thread on POOP!
There's still excellent information here though, even if you can't see the pictures. If you have questions you can probably PM her.

Thanks
I'm not really worried about him just yet, just curious if this is common and what everyone thought about it. I thought maybe I was feeding him too many veggies or not enough protein? OR the lil guy is just eating too much of the protein and not his veggies?
After reading the link that Susann posted I'm starting to think that it could possibly be a parasite. . . I will keep an eye on it and have the poo screened by a vet if it is runny and green again.
Monitor Lizard, I haven't really changed his diet. Wednesday was the first time he ate butternut squash and apple though. . .

Scooter_in_Kindergarten wrote:Katrina I agree, it is REALLY admirable of Brad to provide a fellow BTS owner a service like that.
Fingers crossed I wont need his services thoughIt would be better for Scooter to just be healthy.
It isn't unhealthy - pretty much all wild caught animals will have parasites and lots of captive born ones. It is fairly common and really not a big deal, but it doesn't hurt to check and treat if necessary.
I had a Merauke that consistently had very runny poop from the time I got it - I assumed it was due to him being on antibiotics or maybe a switch in diet but after the meds it was still an issue so I asked my vet to prescribe a dewormer problem solved.
It definitely wouldn't be surprising if Scooter had some kind of parasite and it wouldn't make him unhealthy... but it makes sense to treat it. Just one of the perks of being a captive skink. Can't hurt to check.

I think I remember Brad recently complaining about how little poop he's gotten in the mail, he really hopes to get lots more. We should all send him some, I bet it would really make his day!!
You're welcome Brad!

Yes I am always complaining that I dont get poop! Some people like crossword puzzles, others like reading, I like looking at poop!
In all honesty, it is actually pretty fun looking at a fecal exam. If I get more of these to run, Id really consider purchasing a camera for the microscope to upload pictures of different things in the poop (obviously privacy will be maintained and I will not say who's poop it belongs too
).
I have also offered to send a self addressed self stamped envelope with the ziploc baggies if people dont want to send the money. While it helps out the sender, it also helps me!
So if anyone is interested, please get in touch with me!
