Gauge's Slightly Disheartening Vet Visit

So Gauge saw the good doctor today about that lump on her back.

At first, he thought it was part of her normal anatomy that would straighten out as she grew, since she is at a point in her life where she is developing rapidly. We discussed it for a couple of minutes, then he offered an x-ray as a precaution.

That's where things get tricky :?

Good news: She has tripled in size since she last came in two months ago, and the lump is symmetrical and not made of tissue.

Bad news: The x-ray shows that areas of her vertebrate are thickening. There are concerns that the area between her shoulders is her spine trying to fuse. In addition, she is losing bone density in her pelvis.

Diagnosis: No idea. The vet is consulting specialists, and will let me know within the next couple of days. MBD and birth defects have already been ruled out.

Hope my little girl is okay. :(

I am so sorry to hear that. That was quick though, Gauge is very luck to have an owner that will take her to the vet whenever it might be needed.

I guess the good news is that it was nothing that you or the breeder did. This definitely isn't your fault - I'm sure if Gauge was with most other owners she wouldn't have seen a vet or else they wouldn't have paid for x-rays. So you are doing absolutely everything you can for her. The other good part is that you have a vet that will admit when they aren't sure and will seek other opinions and research it.

From the pictures, Gauge looks happy and healthy. You are giving her a great life - you just have a mystery that you need to figure out. I'm really, really sorry that this is happening to you and Gauge, but Gauge is a lucky bluey to be with you.

Thank you for updating us. Please let us know what happens.

I just had a disheartening vet visit of my own so I feel your pain. I hope there is nothing serious wrong with Gauge and that everything turns out right. You've certainly made great first steps in figuring things out.

Good luck!

Me too...I hope she's all right (as she can be).

I'm just surprised at the extent of the bone damage. She's only 3 months old...I didn't even know this kind of thing was possible with them.

I posted for help in the advanced section...granted, it's not veterinarian advice, I'm still wondering at the possibilities of what I'm dealing with. MBD wouldn't do something like that.

I have replied to your thread in the advanced section. I am curious as to how the vet ruled out MBD, when the symptoms I am seeing are symptoms of MBD.
