Not pooping properly

Postby MissMeg » Sun Oct 09, 2011 4:08 pm

I probably could have worded the title better, my appologies.

Ive been wait for Ruckus to poo so I can get a fecal sample. Over a week now no poo. Some spermy or calcium things, but no poo.

Today there was the tiniest bit of poo, with some calcium on it (Thats the white part right?) but it had a yellow tint to it (Not super yellow mind you). Now im not an expert or have much experience with this type of thing, but I dont think it should be yellow for starters and I dont think there should only be a tiny bit of poo with it.

Hes been eating regularly, so this is concerning me. He has been trying to get out of his tank latly (And has a few time until I locked his cage) I dont know if this may be related or not.

I scooped up the poo and put it in the fecal sample, I should have taken a picture first. If you want I can take a pic of it in the sample. Let me know if that would help

What kind of substrate is Ruckus on? He may very well be pooping, just he's being sneaky about it
The white thing is called a urate, and is basically the urine. Ours comes out in liquid form, theirs is solid. It should be white, but sometimes it comes out next to the poo, even before it comes out, so the part laying next to the poo can be colored from the poo, can sometimes look yellow.

If that's not what it is, and it actually IS yellow, and they start to look yellow every time, you may want to mention that to the vet, because it CAN be a sign of elevated levels of toxins.

Good luck with the poo duty!

Yeah - the white / yellowish white is urates. I wouldn't worry about not much poop for another week or so - they can sometimes hold it in for a long time and when they finally go - WOW. If all else is well, then give it another week before concern. :D

Whenever Joey quits eating, there are a few things I can tempt him with. Because Joey has been so sick for so long, I try to get him to eat if he goes more than 2 weeks. A normal/healthy skink can go much longer and not be harmed in any way if they don't eat. I feel it's a little different with Joey.

So.
Straight cat/dog food can help get him interested. Apple sauce (unsweetened) is another. Usually if he can be tempted one of those will do the trick.
