bts not interested in food?

Postby Spindown » Thu Oct 06, 2011 4:15 pm

my northern has been totally uninterested in food lately. I even made a tasty dish of scrambled eggs and cooked chicken for them today, and hes just ignoring it. Hes still pretty active, but hes only had a few bites here and there for the past month or so.

The weather has finally changed into wet rainy fall weather here in WA State, do you think he may be getting ready to brumate?

His light just broke (we just moved) so i cant give temps but my house is about 65 where he is right now. He was doing this before we moved also though, so i dont think its the move or the lack of heat lamp (which we are replacing asap).

i'm getting concerned, although hes not dropping weight or becoming lethargic really. suggestions?

Suggestion: Don't be concerned.

They can go weeks or months without food if in good condition. Don't worry. He might be sensitive to weather / climate, he might be slowing down for winter or he might not be very hungry for whatever reason. Reptiles don't need to eat all the time - if he doesn't show any signs of illness or lethargy and isn't losing weight then just offer food weekly and don't worry. :D

Hey, so I was in the same situation u were a little while ago. My skink raptor wasnt interested in food since august. Finally last feeding I switched up his food just because I thought something different might enthuse him to eat. I gave him some cat food instead of the regular dog food and he scarfed the whole thing down. I think this was more coincidence then him just being picky though.

Another reason I think he might of gotten his appetite back was because of his uvb bulb going out?? I read that around 6 months uvb bulbs are supposed to be replaced because they stop emitting radiation properly. They look ok but don't work properly. I bought a small uv bulb to try out and within a, couple days of using, the new bulb he was back to eating. Again could just be coincidence though. I am no expert just telling u what I did, hope it helps a bit. Could also be season related I suppose
