Help I lost my BTS!

Postby HelpILostIt! » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:51 am

Hello, Yesterday i found a bluetongue lizard being swooped by magpies at the back of my property near the bushlands, He was just taking it and he looked distressed, so i went to him and snatched him up

Once i got him away i noticed he had an open wound on his back and a nice ammount of his tail missing,

I took him inside and put him on a blanket which he burrowed into nicely and slept for the rest of the day, and night till i woke the next morning (about 7am)

I was going to take him to Feathdale Wildlife park here in sydney today, But when i went to gather him he was no longer tucked in the blanket (about 9am)

I know i should have kept a closer eye on him or atleast enclosed him, but he looked content so i let him be

I now seem to have a Blue tongue lizard somewhere loose in my house, with 2 cats and am worried im going to find it half chewed up, or dead somewhere due to no food

He was in my bedroom on the blanket with the door shut, The possibility he is somewhere else in the house is there, as the gap between the bottom of my door and floor is about 2-3centimetres big. my brother, mother and myself have looked endlessly today in every nook and cranny and cannot find him

Is there anything i can put out, or do to try and lure him out of hiding? or do i just wait for a nasty smell, or a corpse to appear?

Thanks for your time
James

Edit - It was about 25-30 centermetres long, about 3-5 centermets wide, not a super big thing, but not tiny

(Im almost positive my cats couldnt have devoured him without leaving a trail of mess somewhere, there is no evidence of foul play from the kitties)

First thing to do is calm down.

IMO, it is probably still in the bedroom. If you have any sleeping bags(no matter how tight you think they are rolled up), unroll them and unzip them to see if there is skink in there. Check under the bed, removing everything under it if you must. Check closets very carefully(this is where I always find Tea Cup if I take my eye off her for a moment). Clean everything up so it is nice and clean and you can completely see the floor. Then, try kicking ALL other animals out of your room and putting a good glob of cat/dog food under the bed, in the closet, and any other nooks and crannys.

Hope I helped, good luck!!

My bed isnt currently on legs, Have taken the doors off my built-in wardrobes and put them back, the lady on the phone i spoke to (at featherdale wildlife park) said the catfood aswell, but we only feed them dry food, so she said to use soft fruits

Nothing has been touched so far,

I cleaned my floor (mum was SHOCKED)

If he is in a nook i didnt explore, do i just hope he stays out, or do i need a way to remove him.

I have no plans on keeping him as a pet as i cant afford the correct set up for another reptile at the moment, my turtle took quite a bit and am not ready for the investment needed to do it correctly, even though id love keep him, i think when/if i find him he will still be going to the wildlife park to heal and get released again

odds are he's going to look for some heat at some point. If you have a decent lamp you could set it up in the middle of the room, if not, wait until you get the sun shining in the window real good and then check every 30 minutes or so and try to catch him basking in it.

P.S. Watch your fingers, I doubt he'll be as gentle as he was when you got him the first time, as he was likey quite exhausted from his ordeal.

my bed stil has a base, then the matress, will he be able to climb up (base is just a normal base with like a cotton sheet thing on it, then the matress on top, probably 40cm total to climb to get up inveiw of the sun
