Advice for a fussy eater

Postby crownedwolf » Mon Aug 08, 2011 6:41 am

Hello all,
I've noticed my skink likes to pick his meat out and leave his green vegetables (tried different cabbages, dandelion leaves, watercress, spring greens), i've tried mixing the veg in with the meat he just eats around it. He likes his fruit too.
Going to try butternut squash and red pepper next time to see if he will eat those, if not i'm going to have to re think my strategy.

Ideas:
- Starve him over the weekend and feed only fruit and veg portion monday, maybe give his meat portion after he has eaten his veggies. But that doesnt solve his wednesday and friday feedings.
- blend his veg and mix it in with the fruit and meat/livefood.
- keep trying till i find something he eats?

Some input would be appreciated :)

You feed him three times a week? If hes older then 6 months, you can cut back to twice a week, as hes probably just not hungry, allowing him to pick out his favorites - I believe a popular phrase around here is that its like offering a kid candy or brocolli, clearly if they are not hungry they are going to go for the candy

A hungry skink will eat whatever is put in front of him. You could also try grating his veggies into smaller portions.

Thanks, i was unsure of how much to feed him at this age, someone suggested every other day but i thought that was too much so decided on 3 times.
I'll have to decide what days to feed him now, probably monday and friday i think.
i see what you mean with the broccolli and candy thing,i'll do that then. i do grate his veggies to smaller bits as much as i can.
Thanks Nae

I use a mini-chopper to puree up Thors food, at least 1X per week, so there is no way he can pick out the veggies :)

I would purer the food, if they can see veggie chunks at all mine will pick them out.
