toilet trained lizard

Postby unreadjewel » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:20 am

:D
my lizzy never poops in tank.. she waits till I get her out every time!! l learnt early to have her on atowel until she does the business then she can wander with out leaving amess!!
i this the norm?? I was so worried when she only did white poop for 3days but now shes back to a bit of both each time. the one tonight was abit watery but she had some new greens.. managed to trick her into eating them by mixing with some cat meat..
do people feed there lizard baby foods? the chicken vege type? thought it mite be an easy way to get vege into her.....

Thor does this most days, but we don't always take him out the same time every day, so he has gone in the tank. I prefer he goes when he is out, then we don't have to hunt for the poop!

Lol, Im fairly confident unreadjewel meant cat meat as in cat food, and reading her new post further confirms that

Dont worry unreadjewel, cat food is 100% fine, I think drskipjack thought you meant meat from cats~

The white that you see isn't poop - it is urates, completely normal it is the solid waste part of their pee. And yes, it is normal for them to have to go as soon as they are warm and starting to move around. :D

I like tricking my friends and telling them mine are potty trained to a towel I put on my table. Of course, it really me that's trained. They always go about 15 minutes after they have woken up and started moving about. They think its hilarious, and I get a kick out of their reaction.

Hey good to see another NZer on the site. I feed my BTS 'My Dog' dog food, it was recommended by the breeder I got him off. White "poop" is actually urate which is their version of urine.

Is your BTS still awake? Mine has been in brumation since the beginning of April :( But that could also be because I moved flats and the move disturbed him so he decided to brumate early. I miss him :( lol

Most people at pet shops only know one thing: $
1.0.0 Tanimbar Island Blue Tongue Skink T. scincoides chimaerea Silver Phase
0.1.0 Taiwanese Beauty Rat snake
0.1.0 Variable King snake
1.0.1 Emerald swift (captive born)
1.2.0 Jeweled Eyed Lacerta
1.0.0 Western Hognose snake

This is a good place to learn and get advice so welcome and keep asking questions!! :D

'Pretty warm' isn't a good enough temperature estimate - if you aren't sure exactly what your temperatures are then purchase a digital temperature gun of sorts so you know the surface temperature exactly. And read through the care sheet, the info on this page: http://bluetongueskinks.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16120 and other threads for more information and advice.

That range is too cold for the basking spot - you want a surface temperature of about 37. Please read over those links. I don't keep Easterns, but there are quite a few on here who do and can give you more accurate information for that subspecies. :D

have a uvb lamp arriving this week so that should get the temp up... was ordered 3kws ago been a delay but they told me friday at pet shop.. They have said that the lizard would be find with out lamp for months if i didn't want to get it straight away but from what i read here wanted it asap, they said even the heat pad wasn't a must but i felt it was way too cold with out it for her.
finding the right sort of greens is hard apart from cabbage cant buy any of the greens locally.. have picked dandilions but not many around. she likes grated yam and zucchine mixed with chickenvege baby food. might have to grow some mustard greens. lost of puha around I wonder if that would be safe for her? birds and rabbits love it

If NZ is anything like Aus, then you might be having trouble finding food because the names are different, yet its the same veggie  I had the same problem until mum was like "*insert American name for veggie*, thats *insert Aus name*, you spend too much time on American based websites!"

I think puha is sow thistle, a herb considered to assist appetite. It should be OK to feed to a bluey, whether or not she will eat it is another matter. :)
