Shedding questions...

Postby WeatherMan_Tom » Sun Jun 26, 2011 2:59 pm

So Felix finished a good shed but there is still a scale right under his eye. It just hanging there, and it's been two or three days. Its on pretty good cause i tried gently rubbing it with my finger. I tried a wet cue tip. Any other suggestions?

Try a wet wash cloth. You might miss if he jumps and stick the q-tip in his eye. The damp cloth will help to adhere to the scale and, with a slight bit of pressure if you need it, it should come off.

Always good to pay attention to those little details. That's how you learn. You usually don't have to worry about their sheds unless it is stuck to their toes or the end of their tail. They lose toes easily in captivity if the skin doesn't come completely off. If it gets stuck there, a little soak in a pan and a gentle squeeze and pull from you will usually get it off. Its kind of cool to see because it usually comes off like a little glove. You don't have to put a lot of pressure - just enough to hold his foot between your fingers. They usually get it of the rest of their body with no problems.
