Question about feeding rice

Postby MuyBluy » Fri May 13, 2011 7:57 pm

I have yet another question about feeding. I read you can feed brown rice once in a while, is there a reason you can't feed white rice?

Thanks again, Aly

There is no real reason to feed either. Brown rice may have some fiber / nutrients in it. White rice would be just plain carbs - filler. I wouldn't feed either personally. It won't hurt them, but there is no nutritional / dietary reason to feed rice.

Thanks for the reply. I don't usually feed rice at all, but I accidently grabbed a beef with some rice in it at the pet store the other day and just wanted to make sure it would be ok to give him this time around since I wont be able to get back before Monday.

Thanks again, Aly

Rice belongs to the family Poaceae, which includes bamboo, and many many grasses. Blueys in the wild will eat grass seeds - I have observed this - and we do have some species of native grasses known as native rice. They are edible. I wouldn't feed cooked rice to a bluey though, nor would I feed ordinary uncooked white rice grains, or any rice grains for that matter.
Er, I've just re-read what I've written, it sounds a bit scrambled but I think you know what I mean! I'm tired!

Question. Its kinda along the same topic lol.
I know in some dog/cat food they have rice, barley, ect. Alot of them have this acually. Is it okay to feed our BTS this? Ive found some that dont have it, but while were on the topic, is it okay?
