Call him Bob for just now.

Postby x.shell.x » Fri May 13, 2011 6:15 am

got a couple of pretty bad pictures of the little guy just thought id share them. He seems a little less spooked today as i can stand and look at him without him freaking out unless i open the viv

My viv is front opening so no over head shot for now. and sorry for the poor quality just wanted to show him off to someone who wont go ewww.

Im going to call him bob after a grumpy uncle for now until i can think of a better name for him

Here he is

The other thing i wanted to check was going to be ok is that the viv windows keep fogging up so the humidity in there must be a bit high.

I have not misted the tank or anything it was the substrate i used i think. Is that going to cause problems for him ? should i switch it out or wait until it sorts itself out, which i think it will given a couple days. Its not so much today as it was last noght and i asume it will continue to get less until it stops.

My guess would be IJ but someone else with a lot more experience could tell you better.

Congratulations! He is an IJ, and he looks very healthy. Unless it is extremely humid where you live, the substrate should dry out fairly quickly (less than a week), and it should stop fogging up your glass. The cypess mulch I use is always like that out of the bag too, but I have to start misting it to keep it from getting dry and hard within a couple weeks.

I will try to get a picture from above in a couple days when *fingers crossed* he is a little less jumpy. In another post someone said that was best for me to do when i got him but he was not being nice after his long trip and i suspect his box was not handled with the care it should have been as it was a little dented and the guy who delivered him was holding the box the wrong way, even though it clearly said it was a live animal inside :?

I noticed the substrate was a little tacky when i put it in but did not think much of it as the bag was sealed properly. Im glad it wont cause him any probs was not looking forward to changing it so soon when he clearly does not trust me

And he was grumpy . . . very grumpy when i took the pics because i was there i think. he was less bothered today than when he got here though so i hope he will be even less so in the days to come so he will let me get a good picture. Just now when i go in he blows himself up like a balloon and makes a hissing noise over and over but no tongue. then he hides under the substrate. He gave me a little heart attach today when i was taking his food dish out ( because for all he is huffy he has eaten something both days) and i was sure he was over the other side of the viv where i had seen him going under but when i went to lift the dish the substrate under my hand shifted and hissed at me before he jumped out
