Hey so my little guy will be here tomorrow and i am super excited.
Im planning to use Pro Rep Orchid Bark Coarse and/or ZooMed Repti Bark as substrate and was told this was ok but just want to be sure on this as they tend to tell you what they want to make the sale.
Also he will be on the move for a bit before i get him so when he gets here should i offer him food or leave him be for the day ?
Also any tips on helping me calm him down would be good. The guy told me he is quite hissy so fully expecting to have a bit of a handful but i want to start asap with getting him used to me and settled. I know i have to leave him be to settle in before handeling but as soon as he has had that time i would like to try to get him a little calmer.
Thanks.
Incase you have not noticed i am so excited right now i am pretty much bouncing in my seat lol
little guy home tomorrow. Few quick questions.

That's so exciting!
Reptile bark substrate is fine. You can always try various substrates over the next while to see what works best for you.
When you get him, try to take a weight and overhead photo right away, then put him into the tank and wait a bit. Then offer a bit of food.. If he eats, awesome. If not, don't worry.
Generally, you want them to start getting active and curious about their home, their food, and then even you. Once they get curious about me, I take it as the signal that they're ready to start being handled.
If you get the weight, you can monitor it later should he not eat or seem off. The picture is good to post here for ID and visual health check.

He is a good bit smaller than i was thinking he would be which is great. He has even had a little bit of food and is running round the viv having a good look and flicking his tongue at everything and moving stuff around
Will he change colour as he gets older ? i could not find anything about it when i did a quick google search.

Some changes in color is usual as they grow up. How much and what they'll end up like depends on species.
In regards to hissing, keep in mind there's a difference between a hiss and a huff. A hiss is an open-mouth threat. A huff is a closed-mouth puff of air, and at most indicates annoyance. My very tame skinks still huff at me all the time, while it's rare for any of my skinks to hiss at me now. This is just something to know for when you start handling, since a lot of new owners get scared thinking the huff is a threat.
