Taking a BTS outside

Postby robere » Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:58 pm

I took Skeeter outside for the second time. First time she just kinda sat there like she was trying to figure it out. Today I took her out and she kept burying herself. I think she felt vulnerable, like hiding from birds of prey etc.
Do ya think that's why she kept trying to hide?If so, how long does it take them to feel secure enough to sun if ya keep them outside? I can't keep mine outside, I'm just curious.

I think it's their innate behavior to try to hide when out in the open. I hope others with more outdoor-skink experience will answer, but I can tell you that Joey will head for cover every time he's outside. Usually he'll start to dig down in the grass.
Jazz and Maddie have been out only a couple of times as they are only 6 mos old. Jazz will totally freak out and head for the nearest thing --whatever that is; bush, person, scooter-- to hide. I had no idea BTS even could move this fast! Man, he can book it!
Maddie is more laid back. Just checking things out. But heading for things to be UNDER.

All blueys are different, if you take them outside a lot, they definitely become acclimated over time -- at first, it's a bright, and much more open area so it definitely would be their inclination to be cautious!

Skeeter's behavior sounds sort of like mine. He will sit and try to figure the place out(whether it is indoors or outdoors in an open environment). Then it is directly to whatever item of interest. Sometimes he just tries to hide but frequently I'm not sure what he's looking for.

My Western has never liked going outside, If he stays out too long he starts salivating. Whilst my Shingle Backs go on all kinds of crazy adventures.
