BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Today like every week, I was giving all the skinks a bath and cleaning cages. I was holding Bug after she had soaked for a while. When I looked under her mouth on to her chin the "Calcium" build up there looks HORRID. It was black and looked like an infection waiting to happen. She had a scale hanging from it, and the mass was loose from soaking, so while she looked a way I went for it and pulled on the scale. What came out was nothing like what I expected. It was a piece of something that had become infected, and her body had somehow contained the infection using a film of what looks like calcium. It came out cleanly and she has a hole, yes a hole in her flesh in her chin, A direct hole, in her chin. No infection looks clean and just fine. I put her on paper towels and she is acting fine. I will add pictures of her and the "thing" that came out of her chin. I think I need to put the breeder where I got her from on the "No NO" list. She has WAY more issues than Wardo or Bon Qui and they are both WC, there is no excuse for that! All of her issues are caused by human neglect, and improper care.

Bug is a sweet heart though, and as soon as I put her back in her tank she was eating some Cat food. Which I all I can feed right now as the skinks are being stubborn and won’t eat anything with greens in it. Come spring its war.

The chin has already started to heal, and looks very good.

As in, a foreign object that had somehow become lodged in her skin??

Wow, I curious to see pictures. Was it some kind of abscess or something that hardened?

Could of been a splinter you might want to keep an eye out for the area that had the hole in it, as something else might get in and start the process off again, have you put anything on the area/hole like iodine or antibac cream?

I used an iodine mix, 1/4 iodine 3/4 water + Paper towels + Daily Baths in a squeaky clean environment=Good skink.

Weird... but good job, the chin looks much better! Any idea what it was that you pulled out?

I saved it in a baggie, I will take a photo and post it as well. Looked like an old isolated infection to me.

She does look better and by the way ... Lovely girl.

Thank you, she is also a very sweet girl. Since that thing came out of her chin, her personality has changed. She is much calmer now.

Good to hear that Bug is behaving better, whatever it was it must have been annoying her. How is she going now and is the "hole" healing well?

The hole is healed! No, sign of it anywhere! Such a sweet girl. Hey y'all I have convinced my father to go for one more BTS, any suggestions? I want to keep my tangle with only Indo species, so any species suggestions are welcome!

Wait until next year. Then you can get a CBB Indo, kei, or tanny (even though tannies are scincoides, they are from Indo island) from me

I gotta say-I vote silver tanny. If I had the time or the desire to get another skink, I'd so get one.

I'm not going to get a Tanny. I don't much like them, they are pretty but from what I hear they are not known for great temperments.
