is your white northern being tried this season?

Tried all my Kimberleys with her, all that happened is that after she got bitey they went away and sooked.

Tried a couple of Darwin males on her....fail.

Tried the Katherine male that has been doing the job lately.............and



We have a winner !!!!

If you are wondering about her tail, it got chopped a few years back from her cage mates , at her previous owner's place.

I have NFI on how the young are going to look. I am led to believe the whites aren't a recessive morph but are something a bit harder to replicate. The guy I got her from had 8 white adults and hasn't been able to breed any yet. They are all from the usual bloke who produces them in the NT.

Would be nice if Piecses20 poked his head in here more often , he might be able to enlighten us a bit more about them. I have heard all sorts of rumours about how they were originally produced though.

decided to try a young female as my males wernt super keen today,the female is a sibling to 18 month old male and is still tiny,so popped her in with a small male and bang,straight into it,not sure what minimum size is for them to successfully produce but this lass is still tiny,but behaves like bigger girls when put with males,head waves and tail wiggles and lifts

shes only 290 grams ,lightish for her length though,shes the oddball looking one from her litter

rory ,ive heard rumours of how mw gets his white ones,but thought the nt ones were more legit, mind you havnt heard much about them

did joe end up getting babies?

didnt see any advertised,and pretty sure the young pics are his adults when younger

there was someone else off aps in darwin working on them,babies looked normal but some litters had babies that faded as they grew,there was mention of it occuring in the wild to,dont think it was rob coward but i could be wrong

seeing how young male has lost interest in his female,read runs away at sight of her and trys getting out of cage,thought id test the tiny female with him and bang

she must be cycling i thought she must be to small,i guess time will tell

in the pics u will notice male doing pre mating rest and his vent has swelled as hes about to do the horizontal mumbo,he rests for a minute or 2 in this position before doing the leg scrape to access her vent

this is her 2nd mating today but different male

starting to think big girls windows may be closing,or perhaps young males jusr keep it in there pants so to speak

3rd mating in 2 days for this tiny lass,her svl is 24 cm,weight 290 gms be interesting to see if it takes,was going to hold off but tested her on 2 small males that werent interested in females they had been mating and both were keen

so see what happens

shes 42 cm total length,marginally shorter than the male,there mother had babies when 12 months old,so they are twice her age at first mating,i got there mum as a yearling,straight after dropping a litter from joe,so 9 months old roughly at first mating

my main concern is shes light,though has started to bulk up,hes been quite gentle so if he stays that way ill keep pring them,ive never had them just mate for the sake of it,so pretty confident shes actually cycling

interestingly she has gained 12 gms since yesterday,hasnt been fed,her and another similar sized one have puffed up in looks last couple of days ,there mum tends to seriously bloat when males start showing interest

im kind of just curious to see what happens,so if male remains gentle ill keep pring them

ive had pretty small easterns and blotchies produce in the past with no issue

She can't be 12 months, more like 18 months old now and will be 2 years old when she gives birth right? Unless she was a weird out of season baby.

I've had poor results in he past with Northerns giving birth this age for the first time. But the causes of my results could have been anything eg. Diet, temps , etc.

My guess she will go all the way but the litter size will be small in number and weight.

yeah actually 18 months old now so just shy of two if she drops,her mum i got off joe had babies at 12 months old,must have been 9 months old when mated,joe kept the big wildcaught kunnanurra male with her and a sibling female fulltime,which theyare still like that now, 4 years later

being so light at present nothing may come of it,or like my first timer prince regent lass last year ,just slugs,my main concern is shes lean for her length,i havnt had many youngens have babies as i dont usually grow them fast,eg blotchies for me take at least 4 years,they are in groups to,but half that time is brumation in sunny old melb,lol

i got a big yearling female whom was mated at 18 months old,and she dropped 4 babies,she wasnt small though but done similar with easterns,grown indoors for 12 months,put outdoors and out of control some got bred and had babies,a couple of the females were really small,litters were small,5 to 7 babies but size and vigour were similar to older females,older ones were dropping 12 to 19 babies in comparison

im not normally in a rush to push young/small ones,some are kept outdoors with adults in groups so the inevittable can happen if one cycles in the presence of males,i was a tad gobsmacked with this lass,especially with male having access to 3 big females,he mated prince regent female well,but didnt have a bar of the kunnanurra females,warning bites or fleeing was his response there and now with prince regent lass to,i think those are done for the year now

my thinking is if they cycle,they are probably ok to go,but like you i prefer them to be bigger/older,im just curious to see if its possable i guess,i wouldnt put her with a big male,and wouldnt reccommend breeding them so small either,but curious to see what the possabilities are,i havnt seen that i can remember a minimum size/weight for northern females to reproduce,i do know that they can be alot younger though,but usually they are big at that young age

of note is this young male lives with a slightly smaller female full time,shes in a couple of earlier pics,he sometimes checks her out but no interest in her,shes starting to puff out abit so may have to remove her ,but so far no issues there,shes only 21 cm svl and is alot smaller looking than the female hes mating

7th in 4 days,he was a little rougher this morning,she got her first signs of scuffing and he pinned her leg with shoulder grab and straight into it after a few failed attempts and regrabs after tail lift

my best breeding male hasnt even really attempted to copulate and the young fellas went from gung ho to out right no just
prior to big lass ballooning

the 2nd bigger kunnanurra lass got lack luster attempts by main breeder male,just grab and shakes,but as she resides with another big male and she has a far bit of scuffing,he may have slipped some in when i wasnt watching,time will tell though as no one else has mated her

Yeah, I have been thinking the same thing. I had some females mate only twice, and then they have shut up shop. Even the males aren't keen on them. As for ballooning......I never weighed anything but some I thought did look a bit bigger than normal.

Last season I had only four females mated. 3 out of the 4 became gravid. But this year I have started the matings much earlier, last season I had them mating in the first two weeks of September only( with all three gravid girls giving birth on Xmas day). Wonder how much earlier hey will give birth this season?

thats what i was thinking rory,mine started early last season,around same time as this year but bred over a 5 or 6 week window,so babies similar time to you but before and just after christmas,might be november this season,even late october
i havnt weighed durinf mating before,just saw slight increase in girth before females were accepted,and some mega ballooning towards the end,along with no further interest,then the ballooning returns to normal,some show it well,others barely

makes me wonder what i miss with group keeping other species,ive noticed this ballooning in blotcheds prior to males sjowing interest,not so much towards the end though,but northerns force you to watch bexaise you have to introduce them,lol

outdoors i miss alot of the blotchies fooling around ect
