Ok since this thread is already here, just a month old, I am thinking about getting a different camera so I can take "better" close up pics of basically my animals lol. However, I am not one to be "camera happy" so I wont use it a lot, thus not wanting to spend a lot on it. I know I will get what I pay for, but Im wanting to get one for around $300 that will still have decent close ups.

Is there actually such a thing of a cheaper digital camera taking good close up pics? lol

Yes, there are a number of point and shoot digi cams that will take nice macros under $300. I can't tell you which ones right now, but I'm sure some other members can help you out.
