I agree, I'm just not... let's say for argument's sake... "the school type." I tend to make things worse in a classroom rather than better. I'm fidgety. I'm impatient. I'm a talker. I'm a debater. I'd rather read what I want to read, think about what I want to think about... all that jazz. I kind of hate the fact I'm so terrible at school and yet could handle many jobs that require it. So punk rock life it is.

What about online university programs? I've seen ads for them, but i don't know much them honestly. That would allow you to avoid the aspects of the classroom at least. But punk rock > online classes anyway, lol.

Haha, philosophy is about as professional as punk rock, my prof's commonly wear t-shirts and/or sandles to work. I took an intro class and was like "I barely have to take any college math, and i get a degree debating existence, the meaning of life, what happens when you die, what is ethical, whether or not God exists, etc? Where do i sign up?"

LOL It's my life story. Teachers hated me, I *gasp* corrected them when they f'ed up, and then to make matters worse when they argued I would quote chapter, page and paragraph that said they were wrong.

That should be no problem, I'll just turn off the "bow chicka bow wow" music that I have playing through the underwater speaker.

The only thing working against my snail colony is the lone cichlid in the tank. He's only about 2 inches though, and so far he hasn't eaten some very visible small pond snails, so i'm hoping at least enough of them will survive so that i can feed em to the indo as often as i want, and hopefully he and the cichlid will just keep the population in check.... or it will just spiral out of control and i will just have to buy 10 more BT's to manage my snail population!!

hmmm, I seem to have a similar problem, but it's the wildlife on my property eating all my baby snails. When I go out at night (the mad lady with the torch) I even threaten them with feeding them to my blueys but they just snub me. It's one of the drawbacks of living in Aus; The reptile industry is so small that it's hard to find good stuff for them. Rats and mice for snakes is ok, but keep anything other than that and you're left to your own devices to find food, substrate, tanks etc.

PS. Skool sux, maybe I jut fell into good (read: well paying jobs that work for my lifestyle) but I left when 17 and will never, ever, ever, ever go back. No thankyou! I could never do a job that I 'enjoy', it would just become work then But then, Kyle knows this already! ..hello!

Yeah, he's an aggressive little bugger too, i figure if i feed him well enough the snails might reproduce enough to keep ahead of his appetite, and he's too small to eat most of these guys right now. my mystery snails are doing very well in my tank with 15 cichlids though, they seem to leave the snails alone for the most part. If he wipes them out, I'll have to relocate him and get another batch of freebie petsmart snails, lol.

Get a crappy little $20 kit and just make a real snail farm. Put a beta in there ot keep the bacterial growth good in the gravel.

Well, as soon as my mystery snails laid eggs I was going to move the eggs to the 10g, and move him out anyway. He was in my 58 gallon cube tank, but he wouldn't let my mystery snails even open, and there was no way I was letting a 4 dollar fish take out my 10 dollar cleaning crew, lol. So he will eventually be moved from this little tank, probably into my gf's dad's heated pond... it's just a matter of when really.

Cichlids have a hard time in ponds... the water quality can be an issue... Eh, but about your snails! For the bluey! Sounds like a capital idea, so far.

What kind of cichlid do you know? a good snail populace controller would also be a loach of some type easiest to find usually are clown loaches but you'd want to keep 2 or 3 of em or they get lonly but they are great fun to watch when they play.

He's a blue psuedo named "purple haze" (even giving him that name didn't mellow him out! lol ) . He was the bully of my 58 gallon already, would chase every fish away from whatever part of the tank he was in, but he never actually hurt a fish. But once he starting going for the mystery snails, I relocated him.

I can still see several snails going along the glass of the tank this morning just looking from across the room, so he might not be too bad a roomie for em, lol.

Yeah, a friend of mine sent me 15 cichlids and 4 different plecos (some bristlenose and longfins, and an albino of each), but i got impatient and picked up a couple from the store to put in the tank in the meantime. The psuedo was one of those... ah well, hehe.

Hmm, i don't know all the species well yet. I have a yellow lab, 5 frontosa iokolas, 2 multi cats, 2 blue berries, 3 OB blueberries, a compressicep(sp?), and the plecos. also one albino but i forget the name.

sounds like an awesome tank! I can't wait till mine are bigger and possibly breed.

I miss having fish... I had a breeding pair of red-tailed "sharks" at one point, I never fed them. The xiphophorus livebearers did that for me.

Who needs a betta? Snails poop too, they make a good nitrogen cycle, I've started several tanks with just snails.

If it's a new setup, nitrogens are all that can be set up. To maintain the tank it's a good idea to feed a fish with a good diet to keep the "cycles" regular. Tanks with just snails can get fouled and toxic (even to the snails) when they are the only inhabitants. It also depends on what you feed them. I don't know snail nutrition, but quality fish food and a fish is an easy way to keep everything in check.

I would add a beta, especially a female one (they tend to be more robust in my experience) if you're going to do a "snail farm," for a bluey. If the snails start to toxify themselves, unless you test-strip for nitrites/nitrates, pH and ammonia regularly, I wouldn't feed them to the bluey.

Besides, what's wrong with giving a great home to a neat kind of fish for about two dollars?

Well actually, too much calcium can be a bad thing, too.

If you provide your skink with a good and varied diet, plus a good dose of Vitamin Sunshine as often as you can manage (even just 15 minutes a day or an hour on weekends), you won't need supplements.
