Updates!
First of all, thanks for the food advice, I am chopping the chicken, banana and veggies into smaller bits, with smaller portions, and leaving it in her food dish every other day.
I went outside and found a nice rock for basking. I soaked it in boiling water to kill off any parasites and/or bacteria, and rearranged the viv so that the ceramic heater is lowered into the viv, pointing directly on it. Temps are at 98 degrees right now, I guess that's the best I can get them without changing out bulbs, but maybe its close enough. What do you guys think?

I took her out to an asian heritage festival at a local park today. She was getting a lot of attention, until I was told that I had to put her away per the health inspector's order (something to do with the food for sale there). I guess the dogs that I saw being walked didn't fall under the same restrictions. Oh well.. I happened to a have a travel container and bag with me. People thought she was really cool when I was walking around her on my shoulder. One woman wanted a picture of her, and especially got a kick out of her tongue. Here she is, resting on my truck before the journey home:

Wow, she's gorgeous. I love her colors! The tank looks awsome too. It's too bad about having to put her away. Did anyone who saw think she was a snake?? I love it when that happens. Or when people do the eye pop.

The health inspector was probably worried about salmonella one never knows for sure with herps if they're carrying.

Dogs can carry salmonella. And the funny thing is, the bluey doesn't touch the ground while the dog is covered in filth from laying and rolling on the ground....people just love dogs and fear reptiles.... simple as that....you should have seen this NATURE SHOW ON TV claiming that reptiles were dangerous because salmonella and how you should never handle them. Please.

If anyone thought she was a snake, they didn't say so out loud. Guesses that I did hear included an iguana, a gila monster and a komodo dragon (!).

It never fails to amaze me how many people think that my my bearded dragon is an iguana. I get comments like, "Wow that's a cool looking iguana." When I mention it's a Bearded dragon they say, "Is that like a Kimono Dragon?" Please...

BTW guys,
I thought I'd mention that she gets fed every other day, and is completely cleaning her plate now (though not in front of me). She gets a chopped up mixture of chicken, apple, banana and carrot, a little under half the size of the dish (review previous pics to see the size of the dish). I was basing how much I put in on the amount I saw missing from previous feedings. I put it out in the morning and its gone when I get home.
In related news, I have yet to find any skink waste inside her viv, and certainly haven't smelled any (its happened three times OUTSIDE the viv, and believe me, it SMELLS). Wonder what's up with that?
Also, temps getting up to 100 on the basking rock, I'd say I'm good there, though I've yet to see her get on it.

I'm sure you've been told this already (I admit I didn't read through all the pages), but keep that diet varied. Bananas really shouldn't be a staple, even though they love them. Carrots and apples should also be fed sparingly. Get some good, calcium-rich greens in there (kale, turnip, mustard, collard) as a base. Squashes and zucchini are great, and mango, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are good to mix in, too. Variety is key! We keep the food chart on the caresheet on our fridge, it makes shopping and feeding really simple and easy.

I've found that the more veggies they have in their diet, the less it smells. When Scout does get cat food, his poo STINKS.

What Lura said. Endive and buk choy/pak choy/choy sum are great greens too! Just chop them fine and mix them in. We use button squash (also called pattypan squash) and zucchini, sometimes tomato, button mushrooms, occasionally a bit of broccoli too (definitely not for staple, but Tye loves it.)

Thanks for the food advice, guys. She's on my normal mixture today, but I'll be going to the supermarket this weekend to pick up some greens with my regular shopping. I already have some blueberries in the house.
I found out today that she's eating in the morning, not long after I put the food in. I was leaving the house 10 minutes after putting the mixture in the bowl, when I realized I left something in the room. When I went back in, the food was gone. I think she feels safer eating when she knows no one is watching.

Since we're talking about food, does anyone know about chayote squash (sp?).

It's a light green squash with what (to me) looks like a little butt on the larger end... :hehe: It has a firm outer texture, but an excellent flavor. You may need to cook it a tad longer than yellow squash or zucchini for example because of the firmer outer skin and flesh. I love the stuff, personally. Goes good with a rack of ribs.
