Re: brumating skinks (wake up and mating to)
5 times in and hour and a half, that i saw and left him still trying as had to do kids dinner and bedtime ect being a school and kinder night
Makes me wonder what i miss when they are outdoors,i thought the old vic alpine male going 5 or 6 times in a few hours was going hard
Anyways this fellas taken over the kunnanurra males cage for now to keep him away from the other bluemountains alpines and to prevent him making those males possably shy away from the girls

Re: brumating skinks (wake up and mating to)
Wow, your Alpines are starting early this season; or is this normal for you to see mating activity this early? (still winter!
)
I haven't put my Blue Mountains Alpine stud in with the females yet. I don't usually introduce/observe mating activity until September. I read somewhere that the females emerge from brumation later than males. Have you found this to be the case?
By the way, I like your NSW Southern Highlands specimen.

Ask him how early his northerns were? Watched the video Richard. He hung on a fair while, even while that inconsiderate male was all over him.

Re: brumating skinks (wake up and mating to)
Scott, the nsw alpine went again last night and stil wouldnt let go of the female so killed the lights on him (cold shower) lol
Both sitting together basking this morning, they seem till wait till afternoon when ambient peaks then switch on
Tiliqua, this is the earliest ive had them mating, usually they are outside, but the lowlands group ourdoor cage gets zero sun for a few months so brought them and easterns in to brumate, still need to make some out door cages for the blue mountains,i have some old lowlands outdoors at folks still but all big old males and didnt want to add a few more males to the group especially with only a few females,as i eould imagine they would punch on a bit,so setting up another group and will keep an eye out for some females to add to old group, and maybe add some babies if i have a good season on them
Last 2 seasons i tried to wake some indoors ones into ideal conditions,eg to warm to quick,i even woke a couple of females two weeks after the males and had no results
This season i went back to old method, woke them a little later ,old methods cool ambient but decent basking spot temp up one end in 6 and 7 foot long enclosures, usually ,at my old place id wake them start of july to mid july after cutting all heat on june first and theu would hold out mating till september october, when ambients were inproving,so im guessing smaller lower ininsulated tin shed the ambient rises a smidgen quicker
I think warming them to fast the females cycle before the males shed and u miss there breeding windows, and females shut up shop faster
Will see how it goes this season, hoping rhe wesrerns and shinglebacks do something shortly to,looks promising but still early days

Re: brumating skinks (wake up and mating to)
Interesting morning so far
No mating yet but tons of grabbing and holding, its like there holding back till ambient creeps up a tad more
Oh,as i write this silver male lowlands has grabbed a 3rd lowlands girl,my biggest,ol pig nose with the stumpy tail, hopefully they start showing more interest in her
Oldest blue mountains male that was dropping plugs earlier has been chasing a youngster about, but just pursuits so far, pretty sure said youngster is a male
Had to remove the rugosa rugosa male as he was starting to bite at my vic black and white male ,usually does this before females ready and when she gets close the vic aspera male subdues him, dont want them interbreeding so hes off for spring now, really need to find him a female
Ill check ambients with first successful copulations, see if i can see a pattern

Sounds like it may be a big season over there this year Richard, what do you plan to do with all the babies? do you keep a handful and sell the rest or what?
