I'm really more disappointed than anything. Bluey is my son's christmas present, so returning him and getting a refund is not an option. Even maybe to swap him, which i have carefully discussed with my son as a possibility, just brings him too tears. My main concern now...is getting Bluey to eat so i can stop or reduce whatever is going on with him. Its been 4 days and despite 3 meals a day offered he has only eaten a petal off a dandelion which i kept waving in his face and accidently wet.

But he has started to hide less and he enjoys a scratch under his chin, so i am hoping he'll eat soon, atleast so i can relax and stop obssessing. It's certainly a big learning curve for me.

Just trying to work out the not feeding,how exactly are you heating him,reason i ask is even with divet or mbd ect that doesnt stop there interest in food,with my babies,the smell of putting the food in draws them out,wetdogfood,i use light bulbs to heat mine,creating a basking spot temp in the mid to high 30s directly under the bulb in basking area,and it also helps raise ambient temps in the cage

The temps u mentioned sounded perfectly fine though to encourage eating,but maybe a bit more info on cage set up could help uncover what the cause may be

He has a heat lamp at one end which is 35 degrees plus under it and a heat rock quite close to it. Today i found him basking under it for the first time. The temp in middle of tank is 30plus and cool temp is 25plus.

That wasnt a good answer sorry it was late. Its a 4ft tank, fake grass across the length of it. I have a heat rock in far right corner with 3 quite flat rocks around it which are under the heat lamp, the uv is at this end and goes about half way towards cool end. At cool end i have a peice of stump and fake folage and a few rocks so he can hide. I have water bowel in the middle. I have introcuced in the last few days a muesli bar box on its side filled with newspaper shreds and this sits almost next to basking area so it warms up. I did this as i thought he might be hiding were its too cold in the 25plus zone and getting stuck there. He seems to be more confident to sneak out n bask with this box so close.

Ok,thay sounds fine,could just be the adjustment period of a new home ect,as temps wise sounds perfect,youngsters are usually the timidest,i guess in nature alot of things prey on them so its only natural,plus it sounds like its had a rough start at the petshop which probably hasnt helped

Things are looking up for Bluey, he has definately chilled out, basking out in the open. Had something to eat too, chicken, rocket, squash and grapes with a dusting of calcium. Definately settling in now. Had some time out in the sunshine too. My son said feed him chicken, it's his favourite and he was right. I only have hormone free, free range chicken in our house so it seems like a good start. Thanks for all the advice. This whole forum has been so useful, i have learnt so much. Many thanks.
