love the fat noses on your blotchies Richard.

Here is a photo of some of my, not so good babies from this year. The keepers are out with the other blueys - cant bring myself to let them go. Soon Ill need to make space though, once I put the males back in the general population.

I find at this age that it is really difficult to tell how they will turn out because some develop marks within the blotches that disappear when they mature, but some get worse. I've come across some of the ones that Ive sold a year or so on and kicked myself for selling them.

here is an example of one of the babies that has this problem. Will probably come up quite well as an adult, but for now.....

Haha.i was actually thinking about the noses on yours and even kim and jeffs looking skinny,is that a younger specimen trait in them,as i only see it on the babies i got from you which arent fully grown yet

Im seeing a similar pattern with vic alpines, most of the first gens turned out like the mum,but some get more orangeu as apposed to her yellow, but a few older males are just like dominant male, the faces pale up and alot of black in blotches and the yellow bits are tiny,at times the yellow fades to a whiteish color, some 2nd gen males staying like the female though

I really should break the group up abit and perhaps try some more selective breeding,at least with some of the young bright males

I know this may not be in the spirit of this thread but your post about black coming through the blotches caught my attention. My favorite offspring from 2013 has this. Do these black marks eventually turn to the color of the blotches as they age? Here's the animal I'm talking about.

Cripes ,that ones bright kim, lol, even with sunnies on

The black in ny ones blotches seems to develop as they grow, perhaps it just becomes more visable,it seems to be a trait my vig old vic alpine male passes on ,especiallu if he goes over 2nd gen females, worst seems to be with a girl that has a high anount of black, but not in her actual blotches, babies from her get alot of black in there blotches

Ok,went and had a look at the vic alpines again as im at folks on my break from work,i must be to used to looking at the indoor blue mountains and juvie vic alpines at home,it seems having alot of black in the blotches is a trait of vic alpines, lol,as even the brighter ones including big old lass have it

One of the males from old prs first litter is very high black, inside and outside of blotches, the one thats shed today, the other 2 oldens from that litter not so much,2nd ones in these pics, the 3rd old boy is at home with a young female, they were the ones that had developed a mild ri overwintering for some strange reason, anyways heres a few pics to show what im on about, lol

Another old male from old prs first litter, hasnt shed yet but looks close, underneath him basking in the shade is a young bright male

20141022_162208-1.jpg

A differnt young male, year younger than last one and probably the brightest male

I just can't imagine living somewhere that these are in your backyard. I get excited when I visit Florida and see a gecko on the wall of my building at night. Seeing a BT in the backyard would give me a heart attack. Just saw a Shingleback at a local show and nearly dropped dead. One word (if it's a word) for the blotchies.... aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww!!!!
What are the chances of getting these here in the states? Been in the hobby for over 40 years and have never seen one!
Had a Shingleback in the 80's purchased at a local pet shop for 175.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His tail had been damaged (Lord only knows how he got into this country, but they were around back then!) and after months seeing him in the store I felt sorry for him and took him home. Tail had re-formed sort of heart shaped, looked like a butt! Absolutely hysterical when he ran and wiggled that thing....wish I had pictures of him. I think I traded him for a snake or something... OMG!!

splashy, blotched blueys are here in the states but are pretty few and far between and to my knowledge only two people, Kim Lancey (kl here on the forum) and Ray Gurgui of ThunderBay Herps are the only two people to ever successfully breed them here. A few other keepers are raising up some pairs and breeding groups of blotchies produced by the two mentioned earlier though so fingers are crossed we'll start to see a few more produced annually in the next few years. Prices right now are still pretty high, 1-2k range I think, and I imagine they'll stay there for a while yet until more are being produced.

I would probably cut off a toe to get a shingleback for $175! That's an amazingly incredibly astonishingly low price for one here in the states. It must have been before the ban on aussie reptile exportation was passed cuz nowadays you'd be looking at thousands for a shingleback and that's if you can even find one for sale.

I'm (hopefully) getting a young adult blotchie soon from Kim and can barely explain just how excited I really am. :D They are by far my favorite of the aussie blue tongues and just cant wait to have him here in person.

A couple of threads from the past with some pics of the Highland Blotchies that have lived in our backyard at different times.

Diana, theres another chap in the states that has bred blotchies recently to,but i believe they have held on to there offspring

Possably others may have to,i used to get pms from a few people with groups as well on how to get them to breed, one chap even had a group of 5 or 6 adults he had set up outdoors, never heard back on how he went with them though

Yeah, they're here, but most are kept secretive like most other Australian species not including Tiliqua scincoides. I know of a guy that even has a nice group of Tasmanian Lowlands in the US. Now those are wicked.

Oh wow, really Richard? That's actually really interesting, I wonder how many bloodlines there actually are here. I had heard of a guy that had a large group living in an outside enclosure but something happened and they all were killed. I think a wild fox or something had gotten into the cage.

I love love seeing all the diversity in this thread, keep the blotchie pics coming! I cant get enough of them. :P

I remember seeing a blotchie on here that just blew me away named...I think Clancy? Does someone still have that blotchie? Would love to see more pics of him!

I've not heard of any Tazmanian Lowlands here so hopefully there is someone working with them in the states.

I love the lowlands. To bad here in the states they aren't too common... The most beautiful blotchy I've ever seen is Scott's accidental hybrid between a lowland and an alpine that's in the species photo gallery. That thing is fiiiiiine.

No proof other than him telling me. He is very open about the shinglebacks he has, but not so much on the Tasmanians.
