People that think because they keep Aussie skinks, the Indonesian and PNG skinks are worthless.

People that breed Tiliqua only focus on the Northerns when the gigas are in desperate need for being produced in captivity.

Dakota that point is completely invalid. Need I point out that ray has a house full of some of the coolest Aussie skinks out there and he still has Indos. Jeff had Meraukes. On more than one occasion you've worded things to sound like people with Australian skinks look down on Indos keepers. That's not the case. Not at all. If anything its comments like "scincoides are too mainstream" and vague, generalized comments about Aussie species keepers that create any divisions, if any do exist.

I think that is your personal interpretation, I don't recall anyone saying any such thing. On the contrary it is you who tends to deride the Australian species.

I have nothing against them in all seriousness. I just say I don't to get the people back that are to tidy to keep the gigas and don't try to breed them.. instead of saying only buy CBB animals when they put no effort into trying an breed the ones that aren't being bred when they need to be.. doesn't quite make sense to me.

I feel that in every single one of the debates that Dakota listed (except for maybe the last one), there have been examples listed of very experienced keepers who have done it in ways that we don't generally recommend, and they have done it successfully for years. The reason that it is usually not recommended to do things like house together, make your own diet, and use under tank heating as primary heat is because this is a forum that is mostly comprised of beginners, and beginners tend to make mistakes with these.

Edit: I wrote that post about an hour ago, but something came up and I didn't post until just now, and I just saw all of the new posts. I don't feel like any of the keepers of Australian skinks have ever been condescending towards gigas keepers.

So just any and everybody should be breeding their skinks otherwise they are just pieces of dirt?

The way I read your post you are saying everyone who owns a gigas should be breeding. Period. If they aren't breeding their gigas then they are horrible people.

It should be noted that when most of us say things like "don't house together" or "feed a diet known to be safe" or "always provide a basking area", we will often add "unless you have done a ton of research, know the risks, and are prepared for potential negative results". That last part just usually gets completely ignored or somehow twisted to be a personal attack. We are completely aware that these things can be done with relative safety, we just don't like to see people doing reckless things without thinking, so we recommend the safest options.

One of the conventional wisdoms I had planned to post:
It is worthless to keep a skink just as a pet. Unless you breed you are not worth anything. This is especially true for anyone who has a unique/unusual skink - if you're not going to breed it you should just give it to someone who will. Stop being happy with your pet.

Dakota, indo species are so cheap and easily accessible that a ton of people own them. Probably just as many keepers have indos as northerns. The fact is that indos so far at least, have proven very difficult to breed. A great example being that you havent produced any, i havent produced any, but we both own indos. It doesnt mean that i dont care about indos because i have Australians, it just means that i am not a smart as Susann
