Mercury vapor bulbs, huh? Sounds like a good all-in-one.
Are they available in physical stores as well as online? A quick search online showed "mercury vapor" lights. Do you have any links to the kind that you use?
Hopefully they aren't to expensive.

They are, however, extremely hot - the Powersun has been out the longest, has been tested extremely thoroughly, and my own experience with them is why I prefer them over several other brands (other brands IME tend to burn out faster and have a shorter, stricter warranty). I would not use the bulb in anything smaller than a 36" x 16" x 16" cage, and in a solid wood cage, my 4' x 2' x 2' is almost not big enough for the amount of heat these bulbs put out. If ambient temperatures in your home are over 80, I wouldn't recommend using one for the enclosed cage you described earlier in the thread. Not because it's a fire hazard, but because ambient temps within the cage will be 90 or hotter.
