That one in the first pic IS incredibly small compared to the others. How do runts from a blotchie litter fare? Do they have a tendency to remain small?

the runt is a bit smaller kim,they look fine though

runts normally do fine,and catch up to siblings in size,its not uncommon having runts either,especially in larger litters

More good and bad news on the 2nd litter.

First, thank you Jeff for the idea on live insects. The little one ate 3 wax worms today and I was very happy to see that.

The bad news is the larger of the 2 animals of concern died today. I was a bit surprised by this because over the last couple of days, the bigger one seemed to be coming around as it was more active and licking food a little longer. When I put a couple wax worms in earlier it seemed interested in them though he did not eat any. At first i thought maybe he was kept too hot today but the temperature gun only read in the upper 80's.

Here's a couple of really crappy pictures of 2 of the animals post shed in the first litter. Please don't look at the mess on the floor.

I'm really sorry to hear that Kim. That was a beautiful baby. Glad to hear the little one is eating though. The two from the first litter are absolutely gorgeous. You have some amazing blotchies!

Thanks Jeff. I actually gave each of the other younger blotched a couple of wax worms each and they ate them. I am finding that they all act better when not kept quite as hot. My daughter is going to have her hands full caring for these animals since they are not established yet. Each day I am taking the younger babies out twice a day and literally holding a spoon to it's mouth to make sure they are taking water. The older 4 are not accepting it this way anymore so maybe they have finally learned how to drink from dishes.

beautiful babies kim,sorry bout the one that passed,its odd they are finicky eaters,blotchies are usually one of the scoffers,if u have access"another thing to try is snails or slugs,they relish them,even when finicky

with temps,heats still good for hot spot,but i like a big gradient,so they can be cool as well,in nature temps flucuate widely in there range,i try to avoid constant temps,though some times thats hard when its hot out

i dont know your circumstances,but from what i gather,temps shouldnt be causing this,perhaps birn slightly weakened,not fully developed,though from tour pics they look great,so im puzzled

Kim, with those beautiful skinks, no one would even see the mess on the floor!

I'm sorry to here about the one that died. It's horrible, even if you have only had them for a brief time. I really hope the other one fairs better.

Their colours are stunning! Baby blotchies are so beautiful and these are up there with the best of them!

I echo the sentiment of everyone else regarding the lost baby... and the larger one, too. Who would've thought?
