That reminded me to measure and weigh my bubs Ali, they have all put on some weight this year. Myra has grown about 5cm and Louie about 3cm, but Zippo while has gained 120grams in that time hasn't grown, maybe at most 0.5-1cm and is now sitting at 42-43cm, is that normal for Blotchies, i know they are chubbies compared to Easterns and such but just wanted to double check.

Nick, I would think that as long as weight is good wouldn't worry much about length. Zippo would be what about 18 months now? Interesting to see if he has more growing lengthwise to do - perhaps will grow more over spring/summer months.

Not much going on down here, Treasure has been in brumation for about 4 weeks. She/He has dug right down into the substrate and sleeping down there somewhere. He has water in there but we haven't seen him come out at all - had a quick look at him yesterday though and nothing worrisome that we could see. I imagine he'll be there some time longer, feels like we've only just hit winter proper now.

Temps in enclosure warmer than I would like (18-20 C) but as he's brumating fine - well and truly sleeping - won't change anything now. Might rethink the setup next winter though if I could only find a cooler part of the house.

Richard, if I'm going by Treasure's cues, how will I know when he's ready to come out brumation? When do you start feeding after waking them up?

My Zippo has been going bananas the past week or 2, always running around the room and wanting out, adds more to me suspecting he is male.

We turned the lights and heat back on now, getting the sense she's been ready. Treasure's looking really good after brumation. Weigh and feed likely tomorrow.

Weight 340g
First feed went well and he's been out basking.
Very successful first brumation, only lost 7g over 3 months brumation.

Hes looking good, should do a photoshoot for him for some updated pictures for us, good that he didn't drop much in weight over the winter i know he was always a slow grower so wont take long to pack away some more weight.

Blotchies have to be one of the best for brumating,as long as u can keep em cool enough to stay down,sounds like your conditions were spot on ali

He will like put on a big growrh spurt this year
