Yes they did put them all together, plus a baby bearded dragon and a lace monitor. I grabbed some cat food and dog food this morning and put a spoon of each in his bowl, seemed hungry at first, did some roaming and air licking, but no eating. And now he is back hiding and sleeping. He came out last night for a drink and did a poo and slept under the basking light for most of the night, this morning i found him curled up in a box with newspaper i put in there for him. Tank is 36 degrees at hot end and 27 at cool end. He ate 2 days ago now. Richard, its a worry that you think he hasnt grown much.

Re: Northern Baby blue tongue with kink above hip??
Something you might like to try to get this small one eating is egg. I have been looking after a blotchy who was also 30gms when I got her at the end of August. She wouldn't eat for the first three days but then ate when she was given some egg with green leafy veg finely chopped in it. Initially she would only eat about half a teaspoon per day. There will be some wastage with a whole egg but it will keep for an extra day if covered and refrigerated.
Whisk the egg with the chopped greens and microwave in increments of 20 seconds to stir frequently so that it still remains a little bit runny. Leave it sit for the temperature to drop to room temperature..DO NOT FEED HOT. This will also set the egg a little more, then sprinkle with good quality calcium powder that does not contain phosphorous.
Other vegetable I used was a cooked puree of carrot, butternut pumpkin/squash and kumera. This may not be viable for everyone and I wouldn't recommend too much carrot, but it is a mix I always have on hand to feed our Eclectus parrot which became very popular with the blotchy. It is formulated as a good source of vitamin A.
Chicken does not cause MBD per se. The issue is it has a very poor Ca:P (calcium:phosphorous ratio) and needs to be supplemented. I still use it occasionally and none of the blotchies have MBD issues.

Radiant heat at 40-50degC from a basking all night? Might get natural heat for some of the night.

Re: Northern Baby blue tongue with kink above hip??
Haha, yep thats what i copped on facebook scott, apparently im an idiot with an mbd riddled mother and the babies must have been born lacking in it,but again when the girl from lasr season showed an update pic and it looks normal, suprisingly not one commented ,as mbd doesnt go away and or become less noticeable,at best it doesnt progress ,i do have a couple ive picked up already woth mbd, including the big wild caught kunnanurra, tail kinks and back kinks on him,no divet injury, and it hasnt got any worse in the 6 years ive had him, hasnt gone away either, yet the few i have that have developed the climbing injury, once they bulk up its alot harder to see,and usually u dont see divet any more unless they bend back awkwardly, but u do see a slight raise in area this lil ones lump is
I use standard caging for mine, and it only seems a tiny amount of babies get this kink ,i even group raise them, and make smaller groups when i see probs arise, its mostly been males

Ainslie, the big one in this pic is a 4 year old male from the mum of yours, the other 3 are his sisters, ant the tiny full tailed one is the one i mentioned has developed a big spinal dip from climbing awkwardly at front of cage, the one missing tail was tail nipped when i found it at birth along with another male i still have from that litter,he lives with another female from the same litter used to be apart of this group until big male started picking on him,i thought he was a female until this breeding season

Re: Northern Baby blue tongue with kink above hip??
Whaaaaaaat
They had a baby lacie in with them?????? And a bearded
Bloody hell
I tru and give my lil ones night heat, but once there close to adult size i discontinue offering night heat.the weather today and yesterday i give them zero heat as mu shed turns into a hot house and they would cook of i didnt shut heat off
It mau still be settling in to a new home ainslie, they can be a bit picky and hidey in new surroundings, probably not helped much by how petshop had them set up,if u keep him in your house you can probably get awau with no night heat this tome of year, over winter he mau likely try and shut right down though, your temps sound fine so all i xan assume is hes still a bit nervous in new surroundings, doesnt look starvong in uour pics so try not to worry,im sure he will pig out once hes adjusted to new surrounds

I would think that the pet shop has a fair few left with the price they were asking.

Thanks Richard for posting those photos, really interesting.
There were maybe 6 or 7 left at the aquarium 2 days ago, all of them had some injury and most were climbing the walls. Really sad. I paid $149 as I wanted him for Christmas and didnt have alot of time to look around, I knew the price was a bit steep as i had seen private ads for much less, but i paid for the convenience really, i chose these northern ones over some blotched ones which were $110, I couldnt resist them.
I chose to keep the heat lamp on as he was so sleepy and i thought he was trying to brumate. I also checked the temperatures for kununarra day and night, and actually introduced an extra heat rock to bring the temperature up.
Thanks everyone for the advice and for all the food ideas, Bluey hasnt eaten anything other than a day old dandelion, but he is drinking and moving around so no doubt he.ll eat soon from the smorgesboard of food i now know to try. All the help is greatly appreciated.

No but ambient temps rarely go below 25c year round. 23- 25c at the cool end would be a reasonable aim for these guys which means day and night heating.

I will clarify the statement by saying that I don't give my northerns any additional heat at night. They only get the ambient temperature of the house.

Ainslie.L wrote:It is a more lump right at top of tail and it doesnt seem to affect him. It wasnt there when i put on layby around 3 weeks ago he was completely flat, appeared in last week. And it seems the same for most of the others too. I.ll take a photo from above and post shortly.
My thoughts are, go back to the pet shop and demand a refund. They should have never allowed the skink out the door in that condition.
Name and shame time , also threaten to dob them into the relevant authorities. Make as much noise as possible over it, the shop owners will freak and do anything to make the problem go away. Something is really a miss with their husbandry for a yearling to be that small. You won't be able to shift that lump in the skink in the long term.
Take ya angry pills and go down there with a posse of mates.
