If outdoors full time with a way bigger temp gradient, compared to the watmth we offer them indoors, which often doesnt give them what mother nature does, they would likrly follow suit yo what other species do,bask in the morning and later in the day in warmer weather to get preffered body temp then go about there daily business
Some species from hot areas, actually become active at night over active period as the days are way to hot for activity
Dakota 80 is 80,thats a pretty warm air temp, what im trying to say is thats a narrow thermal gradient, which may be quite warm for these guys, remember in nature even in hot zones they can easily find cooler temps
One of the main posatives of housing them outdoors is if set up right its easier to offer them alot if the options they would have in nature, more heat than they need and at the same time more cool than they need, when thats available with alot of different hide options and basking options ect,you get a lot more accurate info on there likes and dislikes compared to the beef jerky making little hot box enclosures we offer them indoors
Also what yours are doing for you in a small gradient in a hot climate will likely be different for someone with a huge temp gradirnt from a cooler climate, the variables that come into play in that case can make a species behave differently for one keeper to another
Ij and meraukes apparently come from more open areas, similar to northern australian scincoides,so are probably more accustomed to being exposed than indos,on top of bring a far more less timid species

Re: Halmahera Observation Thread
Also should u be comparing them to ijs and meraukes, thats like comparing northerns with easterns from different climate zones
Comparing there behaviour with other gigas gigas forms would be interesting,as they all have alot of dark coloring
Im not debating any of this with you either,as you guys are in a much better position to see these behaviours,im just asking you to look deeper into it,test it out more if that makes sense, with alot more variables
This sort of thing really fascinates me,and you would be suprised at some of the things you miss out on with out offering such variables
