Euthanizing my beautiful Indonesian "Clara" today...

Good luck, and congrats on being a great skink mom! Many people would have never even gone to the vet in the first place, let alone gone through all of this effort. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Clara makes a full recovery.

@Katrina...I am SO sorry about Simon. :'( This "mystery illness" is a very hard blow on us BTS owners. At least with dogs and cats, they can always ultimately find out what is wrong, so you can try and treat them successfully.

Sadly this is not always the case. I have a very beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that has at least two neurological disorders, and yet we still battle regularly with attempts to treat him.

I do very much hope you have good luck with your Clara. It sounds like she is in caring hands.

As far as my comment, I guess I was just suggesting that we know so much more about our "mammal" family members, and they usually are easier to diagnose than our reptilian friends.

When our boa was reaching advanced old age, he developed some health issues and we had a number of discussions about whether we should keep treating him or euthanize. We treated his ailments for just over a year since he continued to eat for us but, when he developed more serious problems that wouldn't clear up, we made the decision to help him along.

Having tried so hard with him, I have to say that it is a comfort looking back. I loved that 9ft boa so much and we fought so hard for him that I feel in my heart that I really did do everything I possibly could. If Clara doesn't improve for you, I hope you will also feel that you did your best because it seems like you are really fighting for her and sometimes that is the very best we can offer to our beloved pets.

Please keep us updated on her progress. It can be hard to battle these issues, but your dedication is admirable. I had a bearded dragon that battled some tough issues for a while and may have litterally died in my hands and come back to life at one point. She then went on to live four more years, so it is not hopeless!

Unfortunately, she did lose the eyelids in this ordeal. :'(
But she can still "close" that eye... and regarding this, if Susann or anyone knows, will they "regenerate" somewhat after a shed? I know, prolly a stupid question

I think "regenerate" is probably too strong a word, but they may "thicken up" a bit and look/work better after the inflammation stays gone for a while ...or they may not, but as long as she's able to close the eye there shouldn't be any danger to her eyeball.
