I love the Kei island BTS! These are no exception. I hadn't realised how different they look as babies, I definitely wouldn't have picked the youngsters as Keis at all

You were lucky to be able to have pick of the shipment. How did you get to be at the arrival of them? I thought they would have been under strict quarantine laws after initial shipment and you wouldn't have been able to see the babies until they were several months Your quarantine times must be short after shipment.

I don't think there are any quarantine restrictions here? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure that a lot of the really big names in reptiles pick animals as soon as shipments arrive

That's my understanding too. The shipments are often checked upon arrival to make sure they don't contain any banned animals or species not on the export paperwork but, other than that, they are not held for quarantine.

Plus why would they need to be quarantined anyway? They are all captive bred or farmed!

Well, they may be, but being captive bred does not exclude them from picking up or carrying a tropical disease, not found in the US. But, I guess if you guys already have rabies, vibrio vulnificus and all the other goobies, then I see your point

I think he was trying to say that they all come in as CBB or farmed, but we all know they're really not.

Also - Lea, there's no quarantine at all for incoming reptiles/amphibians/inverts unless it's done on the part of the person who receives the shipment. Most importers tend to flip the animals over as quickly as possible, although the better ones will sit on inventory a bit to make sure it's doing well. If you like the rare or the unusual, your best bet is to get to it as close to when it gets imported as possible - better choices, and the animal has not been set up in a holding facility for too long yet.
