I looked up the type of lettuce I use.. and it says it's pretty nutritional?

Smoothies often have other things in them to ,usually with bland addatives they add sweetners like mango,apple ect ect,a lettuce smoothie with just lettuce would be like water with floaties,lol

Some lettuces are better than others,ice berg lettuce is one of the worst,but ok to add moisture in a varied diet i guess,but that element isnt doing much but adding water if that makes sense

Think of it as adding volume of uselessness to a diet when mixed with other foods,theres more nutritous vegies u could use in its place giving the mix a better volume of usefullness

Regular spuds i wouldnt imagine are the greatest,sweet potato is good though

With veg mixes you need to be wary of some forms actually inhibit the intake of goodness from other more nutritious foods to,theres alot to consider,its not just good vs not so good

I dont know why using Blue Buffalo would be bad I use pedigree cause its cheap! ;P

I've been trying and trying to find snails, but I just cant find them anywhere other than the lake...and I'm not sure how clean they are...

I think I feel bad bc there isn't a whole lot of variety in the dogfood. Also, just hit up the store to mix up more food. We got kale, brussel sprouts, and zucchini. Coomassie stuck his face in a container full or raspberries this morning so we will see how much he eats this afternoon.

Romaine lettuce by itself is low in calories and limited on vitamins. Try using a spring mix or herb mix as your lettuce instead, that'll round out the vitamins provided in the greens. Romaine is alright, but it is really only nutritional when you compare to iceberb. A mix of romaine with other types of lettuces/greens is ideal, for blueys and for people!

I use beef.. I decided to drop cat-food.. (..too messy) .. with a mixture of corn, collard greens, green beans, and some lettuce (..just to fill their tummies up more). Mine are not *to* crazy over fruit, but they will take in some banana..

Dakota - you might like to look into more diversity and balance with that diet. Lettuce has virtually no nutritional value and has been implicated in diarrhoea in many animals. Whole corn bothers me because the the outer casing is indigestible cellulose and has to pass intact through the digestive tract before elimination. I believe there is potential for this casing to act as a precursor to intestinal blockage due to the small diameter of the BTS' small intestine.

It's going to take a lot to convince me a blended mush is appropriate food for a BTS.

How is mush innapropriate, isnt dog food basically much which Richard has sucessfully kept hundreds of bts happy and healthy?

Pedigree has chunks in it as well,it isnt a liquidy pulp,its a good thing for them to have to chew rather then lap up a more smoothie looking over wizzed meal,you could wizz veg mix up and with the beef combine wizzed veg mix into it like hamburger patties

With chunks its probably better for digestive system to,rather than putting an already broken down product into them,if i fed veg id be like norm and chop it by knife,offering roughage

Hmm.. never thought of cooking the patties.. with the vegetables in it.. how well would that work?

It turns out we have a whole-saler up the road, and I found a little over half a years worth of pedigree for only $15.. might be switching to that soon.

Good point brad,i opened a can of some cheap dogfood once,as soon as ringpull lid popped its seal it shot off in my hands,it was bubbling inside so bad it was audible,very rancid,the pressure build up in side was amazing and by god did it stink

Be wary of use by dates,cheap bulk lots are usually cheap for a reaaon

Is Iams ok dog food to use? I use arugula, kale, broccoli, red peppers (a fave), mango, dog food, Repashy supplement, raspberries as a treat/"finger food", and any other veggies I have in my fridge - usually lots since I don't eat meat!!

You can always freeze some of the dog food
