Re: Oh look a bluey!
Perhaps, excuse me for assuming this is a simple solution, but maybe consider moving your blue tongue to a warmer location in the house??

Re: Oh look a bluey!
Maybe until you do get another way of heating the tank, you should move the tank to a warmer room, because definitely you are putting your little skink in danger with the rock. Even more-so because the tank is cold. If the rock is the only place he can warm himself, then he will tend to get on it more, hence increasing the chances for getting burned. Puncture wounds and burn wounds--even small ones--can be very hard, and very expensive, to heal for a reptile. That's the reason why heat rocks are NEVER supposed to be used with BTS. And why so many of us are seeing this as a serious enough matter that you do take it out immediately and quickly get another means of heating the tank to the required temps.

Re: Oh look a bluey!
I agree with the others. PLEASE take the rock out. I have personally warned strangers at the pet store not to get them. IMO, they are far too dangerous and unpredictable to ever use under ANY circumstances. Don't forget about an electric hazard either. Like it says in the care sheet, a wet skink+a electric rock could equal serious injury, fire, and death(Maybe not even just for your skink, either!).
I suggest moving the tank somewhere else at least until you have a better heat source. A UTH or a "night light" might be a better idea. For a cold night maybe try putting one of those rubber things that hold water(Name is escaping me) in the tank with hot water. I can almost guarantee that you have one somewhere in your house.

Re: Oh look a bluey!
I don't have a hot water bottle in my house acctualyO_O I took the rock out and took a spare small emergancy bulb from beardies stash and a small lamp and put that in for now even though its a small desert bulb it still provides good heat. I can't move him anywhere because of space and the fact that his tank was custom built to fit were it is. But we're going tommorrow to get the lamp:)

You took it out? That's great! He'll be fine for a day or two, as long as he is out of draughts. So good to hear you can get the light now, well done.

Re: Oh look a bluey!
Thanks:) I saw my first ''get away from me gape'' today when I scared Serina by accident. He fell alseep on my bed I went to pick him up, started him and he displaied his pretty blue tongue:) I've seen pics but never in person. It was beautiful but a scary and respected display as well. Once he saw it was me he closed him mouth and crawled on my lap for a chin stroke:)
