Wellness chicken cat food, and Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner dog food are Thors favorites. They are both high quality products.

Hot Carl - if you're feeding mostly ground chicken or turkey, be sure to supplement with calcium. Even if you're feeding something like collard greens with it, there is so much phosphorus in the meat that the greens won't supply enough calcium.

Veggies like carrot, tomato and green pepper are good on occasion or in small amounts, but if you are just feeding one kind of green or veggie stick with a healthy green or some kind of squash or green beans. :D

For dog foods that work well - I have Merrick, Wellness, Evo and similar brands on hand. Merrick and Wellness are the ones I feed most. And like Nae said - lots of people feed Pedigree.

Some well soaked Earthborn Holistic Adult vantage and some slightly moistened Whiskas Temptations as treats. Everything dusted over with Repcal. Mealworms on the side and a blueberry for the baby(big guy wants nothing to do with most fruit).

Whats wrong with hot dogs? I'm no expert on blueys, but i know nutrition and the turkey hot dogs are much less fat than ground turkey...

i supplement with calcium a few times per week. and apollo is really picky. he picks out almost every veggie i try exept the carrots and bell peppers. he eats much less when i mix in greens so i switch up what he eats every couple of days and only use greens for a few days per week.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, hot dogs, even the organic turkey variety, are rather high in sodium.

Also, for a big boy like Apollo feeding more than twice a week is pretty excessive, once a week would probably be ideal. Feed him less frequently, so he has time to build up an appetite, and he'll be much better about eating his greens too.

Fat isn't necessarily unhealthy. High sodium, preservatives and additives are. Ground turkey wouldn't be high fat. I would nix the hot dogs and feed weekly like Ali suggested. He will be much less picky.

hot dogs usually contain a lot of extra chemicals to keep them okay, even the so called organic ones. may it be to make the colour better, or to enhance taste or to keep it from going bad. dont ever trust the labels.

.....unless you buy them directly from a good butcher, but then its easier to ask for other things that are cheaper and more nutricious :)

but really, i dont think a hot dog can be worse than some dog food if its that much turkey in it.....

Lately my meals have been dog-food mixed with whatever I can find for veggies/greens. Today I went shopping. Tomorrow's meal will be beef-liver, dandelion greens and butternut squash. Possibly added Beef Pedigree for more meat if needed. With a sprinkle of calcium powder for spice and maybe a piece of flowering kale on the side as a garnish. Very fancy. Pics will be posted.

Most of mine are starting to eat again after the winter, so starting simple, boiled chicken breast, alfalfa sprouts, egg, strawberries and a little mashed banana to tickle the taste buds.

he's only 7 months old... i should feed him once a week?

before i got the slap chop to mix his veggies into his meet he wasn't eating any veggies and i got worried so i tried feeding him just fruits and veggies for a week hoping he'd give in and eat but he just didn't eat that whole week. so i had to get the slap chop...

At 7 months you can feed two timed a week, but he won't go hungry if you only feed once per week. Most BTS in captivity are over rather than under fed. A healthy skink will be fine for months without food.

I am usually only feeding once a week by 7 months. I am probably in the minority though. I think most people would feed 2-3 times a week until at least a year. Actually, I think most people feed 2-3 times a week (or more) forever.

I notice a HUGE difference in my skink's attitude toward food if I feed them more than once a week. They quickly become much less interested when I feed them, and may or may not eat "when they get around to it". It gets to the point where the total amount of food that some of my skinks eat in a week is LESS when they are fed more often. When I give them one large feeding a week, they attack it likie it is the last meal they are ever going to get. Because they are trying to eat fast, they are much less likely to think about exactly what they are eating.

There is no one way that is the only way to feed a BTS, but I have a couple dozen skinks, and not one of them is a problem eater. I can add just about anything to their base dog food, and they don't even seem to notice.

Thanks for the advice.

When i feed him meat (and greens/carrots/any veg chopped up in it) he rushes to his food right when I put it down and usually eats a good amount of it. So I think I'm gonna keep him eating everyday for another few months or until he becomes lazy with his food. Then I plan on doing feedings every other day or whatever gets him to eat like a hungry skink should.

What about a baby skink? Gauge is almost six weeks old...and she is very finicky. Only took a single bite out of her food today. She is being fed everyday as of right now. Should I cut it back to bidaily, or what?

I would still offer food most days at that age. Remember that they are tiny and have tiny stomachs! One or two bites is lots for them. :D

El Lobo - that meal looks gourmet as always. Lucky skinks!
