Feeding quantity

Postby MythrilDelight » Sun Jul 27, 2025 9:20 am

Hello, I’m new to BTS but have tried to do as much research as possible.

We have a beautiful female (suspected) Northern bluey who is about 2 years old. She is very stunning with bright peachy pink when fired up and pearly arms and legs. She came from a very loving, knowledgeable reptile family and is not a rescue.

I have her on this feeding schedule:
Monday: 60% leafy greens / 40% calcium dusted insects
Tuesday: no feeding
Wednesday: no feeding
Thursday: 60% leafy greens / 30% vegetables / 10% fruit
Friday: no feeding
Saturday: 60% leafy greens / 40% insects or other protein
Sunday: no feeding Wednesday

I read that they should be given about 2tbsp of food and that BTS have very slow metabolisms so they are prone to obesity.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with portion sizes when it comes to insects. I’m struggling with how many insects do I give to make up the 40%. I have access to: hornworms, superworms, mealworms, crickets, silkworms, snails, earthworms and dubia roaches (canned as live roaches are prohibited). Alternatively, if they could have high quality dog food, what would be the appropriate quantity given? Also, do we leave the greens in larger pieces or chop them a bit smaller? I’ve previously had rescue beardies with feeding issues and needed finer chopped food.

Sorry if this is a newbie question, I just want to keep her healthy and at an appropriate weight. We weighed and measured her when we first got her and she is 19” long and 648g. We have had her for a little over a week and poops have been normal.

Thank you for the help!!
