Hi all I thought I’d jump on here because this website has been a great resource as a BTS owner. I’m from Melbourne Victoria and I got an eastern approximate 5 year old in May 2024 from an old friend and he has been a delight! Hank loves burrowing in fine grade coconut husk and has a strong love for butternut pumpkin. As revealed in the title, Hanks mood changes that of a person with bpd

I’ll describe what I mean by this… Hank could be out and about in his enclosure or in his hide and I will put his food bowl near him then entice him to it with crickets that I’ve stuck into his fresh foods, and he loves it! He eats the crickets from my fingers and I’ve started shaking my container of freeze dried crickets so he knows when it’s feeding time. However he has this stand offish demeanour that I can’t help but notice? The most notable examples is if I wake up in the morning and his head is sticking out of his rock and he sees me he will duck back into his den, and again if he poking half his body out and I even try to slide the glass door open he will scurry back into his hide. He is then comfortable around me for even more seemingly fearmongering tasks such as when I rubbed a warm wet q tip on his nose and other face scales that were stuck shed, he would just shut his eye for protection and not even hiss. He is also fine with nail clipping, and would only move the foot away after a claw was clipped. I made the cold side of his enclosure a clothes area for him to bury in that area some of my old clothes and a hide because he loves climbing in my sleeves and I read putting your scent in their enclosure it good, and he loves it to death and it’s where I sometimes find him during the day… and his poop. Additionally, Hank appears to be the opposite of scared of my cat. I want to preface that I am extremely precautionary with my cat and Hank, and that my cat is a very timid girl who never seems interested in Hank. In fact when my cat was sleeping on my bed I let Hank crawl around and he crawled on her tail and sniffed her, which made my cat run away (he did not react to her jumping away). I always analyse Hanks body language when my cat is nearby to ensure he doesn’t seem anxious or scared, and they only get close to each other on my bed where I’m right next to them. I want to know if this just means he is still warming up to me, or maybe it’s his personality? I hold him occasionally and he likes climbing in my jumper sleeves and playing in my hair. My friend said he wasn’t that friendly when he was in his care, but his tank was also significantly smaller and Hank would not eat proper food. I’ll also attach some photos of Hank and his current enclosure and setup, it’s custom built with two night lamps, a basking light and a UV light controlled with timed outlets. thank you if you’ve read this far any help is appreciated
