BTS and Pantry Moths

Postby King Julien » Tue May 28, 2024 8:44 pm

Our flat unfortunately has fallen victim to pantry moths. No matter how many times we have thrown ALL of our food away (except fridge food), fully cleaned EVERYTHING, wait afew months before restocking and keeping everything in containers, they always come back!!! Except this time around they arent in the pantry, they are next to my BTS enclosure (which is inbetween the kitchen/lounge it is open concept). I am worrying that the moths are living in his substrate, and have seen a few of their webs around the vents.
His substrate is cocofibre, I am also in New Zealand so it is winter now so theres no excess heat or food in his enclosure.
1. Do pantry moths eat cocofibre?
2. Do you know amy substrates that may deter the moths suitable for eastern bluey?
3. I am thinking of chopping dried bayleaves into clean coocfibre to deter the moths from his enclosure as they dislike thwse leaves, is this safe?

4. Anyone else with this problem :( :( :(

Thank you very much !!! Such a frustrating problem.

Hello, I made an account to reply to this because I'm having a similar problem, except the moths only appear in the terrarium...

Yesterday there was 1 but I found 4 total today... IDK where they're coming from... :( Truly frustrating indeed.

I did read a bit and it sounds like moths like eating shedded skin? My bluey recently shed again and I couldn't grab all of it, hoping the CUC can help. Luckily, it seems like Hank enjoys hunting them, but idk if it's OK for him to eat that many moths...

I'm a beginner, so hopefully someone out there can help... I shall pray to the lizard gods for an answer.

I own a BTS named Hankin, Hank for short.
